Your woods chopper

I've got my big fixed blades but I'm currently exploring machetes. I use a metal detector in isolated bush sites and just don't want to hump the weight of an axe, along with all the other gear.

What is that 2nd blade with the AK? I want one!
As mentioned above, Himalayan Imports "Farm Knife" - here's a thread with more pics, and others are around on the forum, a review exists on youtube...

They show up in the HI subforum DoD's sometimes... pretty rare and popular.

My wood choppers:
at Home - Husqvarna 'All Around' Axe
Abroad - 15" 22oz HI Vojpuri

Dammit that didnt help my want for one, now i really want one.:D

Thanks for the link though.

I rotate between an rtak II, a bk-9, a koster survivor, 15in gurka house kukri and a trailmaster.

the trailmaster gets the nod 80% of the time, I like the way it carry's on my belt better than the others without a big clunky sheath with pockets and tie downs
although it is not the best chopper out of the group it is still a great performer and the lightest of them

I am with Kurt. Horton choppers,Bill Siegle choppers,Scott Gossman Big Boar Tusker,Daniel Fairly bigcountry .36 survival knife or Bruce Culberson camp knife!

Hmm, im really thinking that my next knive purchase is going to be either a Condor Golok, a Condor Boomslang or a Fiddleback Forge 12" Machete, anyone have opinions on them? Perferably which would work best as a chopper for thicker sorts of stuff.

Between the three I'm thinking the Golok would work best on the heavy stuff, but any of them are excellent for the task. :)

Thats what im thinking so far, the Golok seems to have a much thicker blade. I might just post another thread dedicated to this choice though...

Also i noticed that you carry the Golok, how is the sheath? The pics leave me less than impressed and my plan was to just get the Golok and get a sheath made later.

The sheath is extremely nice! The quality of the leather is very high, and the swiveling belt loop make for great ease of carry. All of Condor's sheaths are easily as nice as their knives/machetes, and were one of the things that attracted me to the brand back when I first discovered them in the summer of '05. :)

I don't have but one knife at the moment that I could term my woods chopper, and that is my Browning Crowell/Baker Competition Cutter. I don't know how effective it would be for batoning though as the blade thins out as it goes towards the tip. It is from 1/4" thick blade stock though, and the convex edge should be plenty tough, it is sharp! I've used it while bumming around on some land I own and it did a fine job of chopping dead limbs, and some live saplings.

That Habilis Wood Beast looks like a real chopper and should be a great knife to baton with. I noticed that these were not going to be available until mid-January. They do offer a shorter version, little less than 2" shorter, called the Bush Tool. They are short blades though at 7 1/8", and 5 1/4", and both are of 3/16" 1095, gunblued, steel.

Why unattainable? HI's are very affordable, unless there's something about that one that I'm missing?
Wolf_1989 acquired that Super CAK (or WW3 Model) from Bladite, it was made by Sgt Khadka and only 2 exist: an 18"-blade version (that I've not seen) and Wolf_1989's 20.25"-blade 30oz sword pictured in the post - it is both legendary and unattainable, except from the current owner.

Aha. Fortunately, it sounds like Sgt Khadka is going to let the other Kamis make the super CAK, because his assistant left. So you should see more Super CAK's available soon!
