Your woods chopper

Hey, first post, very interesting forum you guys have got here.

What are you guys using for a good woods chopper/trail clearer? After a couple of years of not using firewood im back to going out on my land and getting some.

Round here we use a chain saw and an axe.

Cursed with pragmatism, I guess.

:D

I like this one by Tim Olt. 10 inches of A2 steel, and holds an incredible edge.

Well i got my Golok in and so far im fairly impressed. I havent had a chance to use it much but tests on so firewood rounds show it to be quite the chopper.

With the thickness its more like a short sword than a machete, love it.

And of course now i have the Parang on order, too bad they dont make a longer/bigger Golok as well.

If you like the upswept blade check out their Viking machete. I've had one for years and I love it. Usual machete thickness, but boy does it CHOP!

Good to know, i hadnt really considered that one.

Took the Golok out in the woods for a bit and found that it works great for branches and medium stuff but isnt as good as some of my other knives on heavier stuff. If only they made a 3 inch or so longer bladed golok, the extra leverage would be fantastic.

I tend to lean towards longer, broader, thinner machetes. Lately I've been using this fella' almost exclusively though. ;)

LOL

I meant it for the trail clearing side of things, not the actual firewood getting. Although i did chop down a 3-4 inch wide tree with my walther machete recently, took less than 15 blows.
