The only heights that really get me is flying in a passenger plane. Of course, I don' really like standing on the edge of a cliff, but 35,000 feet is just......holy cow....a long way to fall.

In other news... I know his "style" isn't quite what Beckerheads are usually into, but if y'all ever get a chance to meet Jerry Hossom and pick his brain, go for it! He's a cool cat and he knows his stuff... I suspect he would fit in just fine at a Gathering.![]()
I totally dig his style. I'm lusting over his Fox-made Vengeance....though I don't really need a fighter. His custom stuff is...wow.
Have you seen Nathan The Machinist's A2 fighters?

If I had a private plane, I'd have NO qualms with flying, I hate dealing with TSA/DHS and their bullish. Those guys get such a hard on for doing such a menial job, and sucking at it SO badly. I flew from St. Louis up to Belleville, Mi and didn't know it but had a double edged dagger in my carry on. It was actually in the back pocket of my camera bag. Quite literally had forgotten it was there since it was put in there almost a year prior. However flying back to St. Louis it was found and instead of letting me go mail it back to myself at home I got arrested.
If you don't mind sending out some really shitty looking sheaths!Well, 10:00 P.M. my work day is just now coming to a end. Just got done cutting out and gluing up 6 sheaths. I need a leather apprentice. Sheath work with more knives going out is about to become the death of me. Anybody want the job?
I started doing contract work at Boeing in St. Louis. I'm trying to convince them to let me ride bitch in one of their flights in the -18. I actually found out they are still making the -15 even! For another 3 years. I was stupefied. I had no idea they were still being made. I'd honestly rather ride back seat on the -14 as that was my dream plane when I was a kid. But any of them would be completely mind boggling to me to ride in!That sucks. I had a mishap of that sort back in 2007. I was not arrested though. It was a gerber paraframe I had totally forgotten about. I just told them they could have it. Good thing too cause I have no desire to own anything Gerber.
What I really hate, is the height, and not having any control over my own safety. I suppose if I rode in the cockpit the whole way I might feel differently, but.....
Well...... I do want to learn how to work leather for purely selfish reasons. My BK5 needs a pretty sheath to go with its spiffy new scales.Well, 10:00 P.M. my work day is just now coming to a end. I know and have known a few pilots; you are a LOT safer in their hands than driving around with a bunch of amateurs every day, IMO. Statistically as well. I understand the fear of it, but that's all it is. There are 20 things you probably do every day that are more likely to kill or injure you, the foremost being driving....
As far as the height, that's actually an advantage from an accident recovery/avoidance standpoint. Or......you just have a lot more time to consider your fate as you plummet to your death. Which is, after all, a very, very slim possibility - statistically speaking.
I like airplanes. Big ones are like time machines, getting on in one place and getting off someplace quite different; small ones are like....flying. And freedom. I was lucky enough to put my hand on the stick of a 1930 Great Lakes stunt trainer years ago and actually fly it.....that was a pretty powerful experience.
To you it does. I think we all have some irrational fears/dislikes/whatever.....and some of them aren't irrational at all. Some are perfectly rational when viewed from one's own perspective and life experience. Seriously though, what the hell do I know? Nothing....that's what. I have plenty of fears. Flying just isn't one of them.I realize my fear is irrational but its still there. Truth of the matter is, I'm more stressed about flying going home than I am leaving home. Does that make any sense?
Ours just went up tonight as well, if it makes you feel any better. Finally got our Christmas tree up, haha. Up, not decorated yet.
