You're favorite scout knife - I plan to buy one.

Scout knives, my favorite subject! I bought all kinds when I was Scoutmaster, European fixed blades, US, German, and Swiss (Victorinox and Wenger) multiblades but my favorites are the good old Camillus “Official Scout” models, I gotta get some pics 😃

Can’t forget the Camillus Cub Scout models too, this poor old knife is waiting for some TLC, I got it from one of the dads in our Troop:

The Victorinox Camping/Camper is a good tool. It includes a saw blade which can come in handy. Here is an older one from when Victorinox included an etched tent on the cover.

That's the exact model that was my first "real" pocketknife! I carried it from age 10 until I was 21. I lost it when we shot the wrong part of the rapids on a canoe trip and capsized over a small waterfall. Dang thats been 22 years ago, 😱 feels like last week!

Much as I like the bone handles and all the character of the other versions, this Victorinox cadet is too good to ignore

I did a ton of camping as a kid, but never had a “scout” or “camp” knife, just a regular multi-blade slipjoint of whatever sort I had at any given time. I think my dad thought they were too gimmicky.

I have purchased a few in recent years, and have brought a couple of them with me camping, but honestly my regular EDC does pretty much everything I need when outdoors, and I have not had much occasion to use them. I do like them, though:

I'd say Victorinix all day but, seeing this, I'd definitely be more drawn to this than the Swiss Armys I already have.

I have one of those MKMs (Malga 6) and I really like it. I travel a lot, including a long daily commute by train, and it has come in very handy. Sometimes, I will buy some cut fruit or melon from the station's little grocery and the fork, which I figured wouldn't see much use, keeps my fingers (and keyboard and phone) from getting all sticky.

Marbles MR278 "GI UTILITY KNIFE" (AKA: "Demo Knife") (under $8.⁰⁰) 100% 440A. Like the Camillus, Western, Colonial, and other makers of the old issue "Demo Knife", the bail is "strong enough to tow a Jeep".
Differences: The MR278 has match strike pulls, the can opener blade lacks the "CAN OPENER" stamp, and the MR287 is about 1/16 inch shorter closed. Blade lengths are the same, however.
I don't know it it is true or not, but I was told by a member here a couple years ago the MR278 is current Mil Spec for the Demo Knife. I don't know anyone currently in the military, so I don't know if the quartermaster is handing them out, or the government still has warehouses filled with New Old Stock Camillus/other contractors Demo Knives to give out.

SAK: (4 blade no back tools) Recruit (Personally I find the pen blade handier than the Cadet's fingernail file) and it has the toothpick and tweezers.
Evo Grip 10; 14; 17 with multi purpose corkscrew. The 18 if you want the single purpose phillips screwdriver.
Huntsman/Field Master, if you want scissors and saw.

Vintage: Ulster, NYKC, Camillus, Kamp King, Diamond Edge, Colonial, Imperial, Marbles Gladstone, MI. Hammer Brand ... I think pretty much everyone (I believe Buck was an exception) made a 4 blade scout/camp or Engineers Knife. (Engineers knife has a pen blade instead of the punch/awl/reamer 4th blade)

Older Schatt & Morgans can be really nice. Have a ‘93 and ‘04.

Motivated to carry the ‘04 Mahogany Hanover Jig now, so thanks CF.

*edited, just realized posted pics are from sellers listings when I bought them so replaced with one of my own.

Aw man, I've had my eye on this beauty of a Schatt & Morgan for the better part of the past month, and this thread convinced me to finally pull the trigger; but alas, I guess I slept on it too long and it has sold. Kicking myself right about now. I'm hoping somebody here snagged it at least.

(Sellers pic obviously)

My first knife was a scout knife I got back about 1960. It was a Colonial Forest-Master that I used heavily on the dairy farm where I grew up until I left for college in September 1969. I still carry that knife occasionally.

Still one of my favorite patterns. I bought this like-new Imperial Kamp-King the weekend before COVID came to my area:

I've had similar camp knives (spear, awl, bottle opener, can opener) from other makers, too.
Rough Ryder:

Marbles Workman series (G-10 covers, I think):scout.mark.open.jpg

Böker Magnum (rosewood covers):

Kutmaster Girl Scout knife:

I also have a couple of Imperial BSA models that are more SAK-styled:

And an older Imperial that shows its age and has a pen blade instead of an awl:

I also have a Mikov scout knife from Czechoslovakia with pen blade instead of awl (and no bail):

I'll have a brief note about SAKs in a separate post (can't post any more images in this post).

Then there's the whole world of SAKs, and as previous posters have noted, that's where you might find your camp knives with the highest "utility score". As others have noted, Alox SAKs with the anodized aluminum handles are really first-class (I like the Farmer, with a saw, and I'd probably like the Farmer X even more, with scissors added). But one thing I like about the red celidor models is that most of them have a pen blade in addition to spear, awl, and bottle/can openers, as well as a myriad of options for other tools. I like my Huntsman with saw and scissors, but I'd probably like a Fieldmaster even more with a Philips screwdriver on the back instead of the Huntsman's corkscrew.
