You're favorite scout knife - I plan to buy one.

Much as I like the bone handles and all the character of the other versions, this Victorinox cadet is too good to ignore

I agree with you and Primble Primble Primble Primble on this. The Bones do look superb but the Alox SAKs are undeniably attractive workers, especially the coloured ones, superb picture too

Well, a STAG Scout knife could really be something: beautiful to look at & handle, yet more durable than Bone, but that's veering from Scout to Sportsman's territory. Costly...;)

The Camillus #99 camp knife is a good solid choice and easily had for cheap online.

Fyi case no longer offers one, they never actually made their scout knife themselves, and the Case tang stamp adds a premium.

When I was a boy I carried an Official BSA pocketknife, in the 80’s and 90’s I carried a SAK Huntsman for Army use, but I far prefer the ALOX version of the SAK today - best quality of the genre IMO. OH

I totally agree I would carry a SAK ALOX if I was serving nowadays.

I love other stuff, but these have the perfect size, weight, functions and ease of use with low maintenance over everything else.

The new soldier model is just to big for most times.

I have an old Remington Scout knife and I’ve been looking at the Case models for a while,
never have been at the right place at the right time with cash in hand - yet!

- However, for many many years I’ve used some variation of 93mm alox SAK with very few complaints -

My son is an AOL so we’re looking at BSA troops to join and an ASM at at one troop was showing his old Camillus Cub Scout knife from way way back in the 70s. I gotta say, it was a really nicely made knife. I think Camillus was still making the “official” scout knives when I joined up in the early 80s, though I never had one.

My Remington and the Pioneer I used in BSA.
An old cross with red scales hold onto that one its very desirable.

I don’t know how that one stayed with me through all the - ahem, “exciting”, twists and turns my life has taken.
But it’s still here, sharp and ready for duty and won’t be leaving anytime soon.

Interesting, who made scouts for Case?
I have read much on this while I was actively pursuing old Case Knives. Basically (and it ain't 100% clear) if the knife is numbered 6445 it was made by Case in their plant, and is quite heavy duty. If it is numbered 640045R it was contracted to Camillus and made by either Camillus or Ulster. I have two versions of the Case contract knives (but never did find a nice Case built 6445). Finally you have the Case Junior Scout (104090R SS shown here) which I understand was built by Queen. You will notice that the 640045R last year of production was 2006 (right when Camillus shut down) and the Junior lasted longer, until Queen shut down. I have some pictures somewhere I will come back and post after I find them. OH

Here is a photo of a 1981 contract camp knife (I'll have to enter each in its own post, the old files are huge). Interestingly enough, the only official "Scout Knife" Case ever offered was the Junior (along with a number of standard Case patterns offered with BSA emblems). OH

Interesting , I certainly would have thought that Case made the junior Scouts themselves because they sure do look like a Case product.

It has me wondering how they'd go about contacting a knife to Queen while still using Case made bone covers.

I'm not sure about that John. Steve Pfeiffer never mentions the pattern in either edition of his book (Collecting Case Knives) and I cannot find anything definitive. I pieced together my info from old posts on various knife forums and this seemed the closest to any consensus. OH
Oh I forgot about the mini scout, and was thinking about the full sized vintage Case scout knives .
So, who do you guys think made these two?

I have some of the Bone handled Camillus scout knives, but if I were looking for a user I’d pick a Swiss Army knife. I know the traditional scout pattern never had a saw or scissors but I could only imagine how useful they would have been back when I was in Scouts. An Alox Farmer would be the most stout and durable, but the backside tools come in handy like the Bigfoot Camper with the little emergency fires starter. If you need scissors then the Huntsman would be a good call.
