YouTube knife reviewers

If this thread were in a different forum, I would ask about buying Russian knives ;)

well they get paid based on views and subscribers, if they only did american knives then they would run out of content pretty fast, some chinese knives now are getting to be decent quality at a good cost so why wouldnt they cover that, I have picked up a couple civivi and I am very suprised how nice they are for the price

It probably seems that way because the market for Chinese made knives has increased a great deal and continues to increase. There are more manufacturers, more brands, and globally--US-based included--more knifemakers/designers are contracting out to Chinese manufacturers for their designs.

That makes for a stark comparison to the number of US-made models that have come out during COVID.

If the percentage of the market that's Chinese goes up like crazy, the number of YouTube results on Chinese made knives are going to go that way as well.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only member of this forum that doesn't watch knife reviews... but I can honestly respond that no, I haven't noticed.
Never watched them either. Didn't realize this was a big thing. I get my information here. Y'all are excellent at emptying my wallet, I have no need for any other help.

Edit: I like my Chinese and Russian knives, as well as my American, and Taiwanese ones.

The Youtube reviews are very useful just to see what the knife looks like in the hand. It's better quality than any official press photos on the website which are usually lackluster. Youtubers also have really good video cameras now. Don't watch them for their editorial content which is useless, just watch to see what the dang knife looks like in the hand, if it looks comfortable, if the size is too big or small, etc. If you don't live near a good knife store then video "reviews" are the next best thing.

Youtubers have to pump out content to stay relevant, and the very prolific Chinese manufacturers are more than happy to oblige them with samples, so we see exactly what's being described. I generally skip those videos unless something captures my interest.
And in that big tech is backed by China, well that could have something to do with the push on Chinese knives.

A lot of good points..
(I shouldn't have specified Chinese - my elementum still amazes me)
I'm just complaining that some of my favorite reviewers of high end knives are now pushing junk instead of showing me cool stuff..

The #1 reason for me to watch youtube knife reviews is size comparison and the #2 reason is visual appeal of the knife. Other things are pretty much negligible (doesn't matter who the reviewer is). For these reasons, I can always find some useful reviews on youtube.

There's still one or two good ones left, but has anyone noticed that just about all the knife reviewers on YouTube have turned into cheap Chinese knife salesman?
I have zero interest in Chinese knives, and as a result, I don't bother watching many knife reviews. Well, that and the fact that most of them just suck and could barely be called real "reviews" at all. I'd be curious who the "one or two good ones" are that are left? If I could find any good reviewers who aren't just shills, I'd definitely follow them.

I've scaled back on YT reviewers simply because not too many are criticizing the bad points. Don't try & sell me something. Tell me both positive & negative sides. Can't do that? Unsubscribed.
