YouTube knife reviewers

The only time I watch yt vids is when I am researching an upcoming purchase. It is nice to see a knife in hand in addition to a websites pics.

I don't normally watch vids for the heck of it. I don't have time.

The #1 reason for me to watch youtube knife reviews is size comparison and the #2 reason is visual appeal of the knife. Other things are pretty much negligible (doesn't matter who the reviewer is). For these reasons, I can always find some useful reviews on youtube.
Same here. If I hear one more reviewer complain about T6 screws vs T8..... 🤣

I agree with mostly watching reviews to see different angles, disassembly, etc. when considering a purchase. Specs at retailers are not always correct. Some dimensions aren't listed. Some angles aren't shown and I've been burned by not knowing a knife had a loudly colored back-spacer before.

As far as good reviewers, there are some. Whether or not people like his style and personality, Shabazz can be helpful. I'm also a fan of Kevin Cleary.

As far as Chinese knives, the number of reputable companies both doing quality work and engaging with the community has exploded. Whether it is a Ray Laconico design produced by Kizer, either as an actual Kizer or under Monterrey Bay, or one of WE's in-house designs; that's where most of the new production knives are being made. (It is what it is and we could talk about how things got that way, but a lot of that discussion might better be had in the political forum.) Meanwhile, most of the American-made knives I've purchased in recent years have been customs.

I watch Nick Shabazz for the same reason. haven't watched in a while, but less than a year ago - ish, he seemed to be concentrating on a lot of higher end stuff. If not, he'd say so, and point out why it was junk. Interesting guy, and the simple dry humor is entertaining.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only member of this forum that doesn't watch knife reviews... but I can honestly respond that no, I haven't noticed.
Haha you're not alone. I believe that I've watched maybe two of them. It doesn't get much more boring than talking about one knife for 20 plus minutes lol.

…has anyone noticed that just about all the knife reviewers on YouTube have turned into cheap Chinese knife salesman?

Yup. And so, I pretty much gave up on YT knife channels about a year ago.

…if they only did american knives then they would run out of content pretty fast,…

Sad, but true.

… the very prolific Chinese manufacturers are more than happy to oblige them with samples, so we see exactly what's being described. I generally skip those videos unless something captures my interest.

Pretty much yes. Were I to express my feelings on the topic, I’d probably have to go to the Political forum…and that ain’t gonna happen.

The Youtube reviews are very useful just to see what the knife looks like in the hand…. If you don't live near a good knife store then video "reviews" are the next best thing.

True. If I’m interested in picking up a knife, I’ll sometimes search for it on YT.

I still get around to watching most of C&A’s posts, and will occasionally check in on kinfebro to see if there’s any satire left

The fact that I exclusively buy knives over the internet is a major factor pushing me to watch reviews. There are no dedicated knife stores near me. The Walmart knife counter doesn't have much to offer. So I can't handle or inspect things before I buy. I also hate having to go through the return process with some retailers, which can be a real pain. Answering questions regarding ergonomic hot spots, bad action, if a blade gets close to the scales when a knife is closed, etc. can be very valuable.

For just checking in on what's new (hotness and otherwise) I'll check-in on Metal Complex. I also like Birdshot IV. I think mostly because they actually show their faces from time to time. I also like to check in on various channels around Blade Show since I never get to go myself.

Most of my "Knife Time" though gets spent on IG these days.

I watch a lot of different stuff on youtube, some for entertainment and some when I'm trying to learn something. I've learned that it is hard to find someone who reviews things that is qualified to review things, whatever the thing is.
And I do watch youtube at 2X speed whenever I can. Most people talk pretty slow so it isn't a problem, but occasionally I find someone that I need to play at 1.75X or maybe even 1.5X. And I don't tolerate BS so if a video isn't providing then I stop it partway through.

I quit him when he said the Spyderco Slysz Bowie was the best knife ever! 🤢

I guess this thread is not about YouTube knife reviews but about hate for Chinese made knives.
I suspect you haven't seen one of the threads where we tell you how much we really hate chicom blades.
