Yuna Knives BEWARE

I'm sure the OP wouldn't have ordered the blade if he knew he'd be waiting this long.
I can't see ordering a knife today and hoping I'll have it in hand 2 years down the road....JMO. I have trouble waiting the 3 days when ordering a production knife that's in stock!!

Some do order them that far out and much further. Personally when you get that far out there is a good chance my desires have changed.

My point exactly Peter!
Definitely not for me......I have a few knives, a year old, that I'm not crazy about anymore. Tastes and fads change quickly.

I have completed three orders with YUNA. Be patient. I'm sure you'll get your knife.

My last order was placed in November of 2012. In January 2015 he was prepared to start my knife and asked for the deposit, which I paid. It wasn't until November 2015 that I had the knife in my hand. His original time frame was 3 to 4 month to build the knife, but it took quite a bit more time.

If the OP's time frame is like mine, he should have his knife in a couple of months.

This is still a WOW for me - a tribute to your patience and I hope to the quality of YUNA knives. Enjoy!

405 bucks for a deposit seems a bit expensive .. how much is the finished product ?

He asks for 30% of the knife upfront when he starts making it. To be clear, there is no cost to wait on the list.

The first two knives he made for me were done within 5 months of the deposit. This last one took 11 months.

^ Coming from you Sean, this personal testament, speaks volumes! Would it be asking too much, for you to possibly post a couple of pictures of this recent acquisition? :)

I'd also like to see what people are waiting years for!
Joe

I fall into your category, Joe. There is no way, that I could wait a year for a custom knife, let alone, two or three! I'd rather just buy one on the secondary market, & pay the premium...but that's just me.

Over a week now and no response on any communications from Yun. By his own terms on his website, he'd have sold my order if I didn't respond to him in a week.

I will admit to wanting one of his pieces, but this thread just turned me completely off. The idea of a resale after a week, with your DEPOSIT IN HAND, is almost offensive after expecting you to be a patient buyer. This ideology is so backward that I have trouble believing that someone would put it on their business page.

Yum has been taking deposits forever. You'll get your knife, just keep emailing him. I don't know anyone who hasn't gotten their knife, I've had three.

I'm four years in to a five year wait on a bike frame
A lot of the finer things come with waits. I waited years for an RJ Martin. You certainly don't have to wait, but your other options are 1) Not getting one 2) Paying secondary market.

It may take a few tries but he will get back to you. Yun is a good guy, has had this pay model since day one, and has always delivered.

I want a bespoke Richard Sachs bike frame period..

There is no secondary market for bespoke and there is no real replacement for a Sachs though I own other bespoke frames by other greats. If Mr. Sachs had said there is a 10 year wait I would have gotten in line. Beautiful things are beautiful especially when done my masters there is no sell by date on them.

I've been waiting for 2 weeks for a response now and nothing. He's making knives for charity auctions and posting on Facebook but can't find a chance to reply on an order that he's 2+ years late on and over 1 year late past committed completion date after the deposit. Yun is far and away the worst communicating knife maker that I have experienced out of dozens, most of which have been in far greater demand and dramatically more established and skilled than this guy. Also, many had full time jobs in addition to being a knife maker. My point is that I would avoid this guy like the plague if I had a second shot at whether to pay him a deposit or not. I hope I've helped others. There is no way I would ever send this guy a deposit again - not a chance. Thanks to all for the support and collector chat.

Have you tried to message him on Facebook?

I have a very easy time getting a response.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I don't have or want a FACEBOOK account, but would very much appreciate it if you could alert him. I did however see that he has an auction on there now (started an hour ago) and lists an Email to send bids to. I sent him my last 3 Emails to that Email with the subject <<< BID FOR YOUR FACEBOOK KNIFE >>> so there is no excuse for him to not reply, although I'm not being nice at this point. As I've stated prior, I've also Emailed him through my web/member/order account on his website as well. This guy is a loser x10 in my book. I'm just looking to avoid to have pursue legal action against him, as challenging as that may be for international business. Thanks for sharing the help insight.

Ok, the Email with subject <<< BID FOR YOUR FACEBOOK KNIFE >>> got a reply from Yun quickly. He apologized, explained some special circumstances behind the poor responsiveness and offered either a refund or accelerated completion. I thanked him and opted for the refund as I'm just sapped of energy for the knife because of the ordeal. I will post again when I get the refund so folks contemplating future dealings with Yun will know. I wish it could have gone differently for both Yun and I. Thanks for your forum support.
