Thanks Thomas!

One thing to note after fondling the 560 today, the thumb studs are pointless. I can't open it using them for the life of me. I'm going to lose the pivot when I get home and see if it helps without having to overly adjust it.

I've got mine approx. 24h now.
The thumbstuds are not for opening! Sure as bladestop, maybe for hurting yourself, but not to be operated. But to be honest I don't care about it. I bought a flipper.
Mine was taken apart and lubricated right away. I always do so. That was a good idea. Now it runs very smooth. It's also a good idea to play around and break it in.
It'll need to be sharpened today. Don't get me wrong, it is sharp, but I'm spoiled by CRK.

When designing a knife with a flipper and thumbstuds, you have to make a decision on what kind of knife you'd like to make - do you want it to work better with thumbstuds, or better with the flipper. We made a conscious decision to give the 0560 a stronger detent. We did this to make sure that the knife functions well with the flipper. Obviously, the tradeoff is that the thumbstuds can be more difficult to use. We could have made the detent weaker, but then the flipper might not work as well. It's a tradeoff.

The idea of a bearing system is that the pivot can be tightened to the point of zero blade play, but the blade still opens smoothly due to the fact that it is rolling on the steel ball bearings. Loosening the pivot will not help make the detent weaker. Also, the bearings should not need to be lubricated - the lube won't hurt them, but it is unnecessary in this application.

As to the sharpening, I'm curious what your expectation is. The samples I have handled have been shaving sharp - what changes are you looking to make?

Well ZT is always going to be limited with pretty much every model. This is not a volume produced brand.

But, there always seems to be enough of say models like the 0300 and 0200, for example, for everyone that wants one. So, what I was getting at will these be produced about in the same number, or manner?

It should be comparable to the 0200 - 0300 - everyone should be able to get one.

That's what I needed to hear and I have a pre-order in now. I just didn't want to pre-order wait and then never get one like what happened with the Tilt.

For what it's worth, I can't open my XM-24 by the thumbstuds.

True, it doesn't bother me. I consider it a flipper, just wanted to point it out. I think their main function is as stoppers anyway.

Not to contradict jimmers comments, but there were availability complaints throughout 2011 on both the 0300, 0200, actually almost the entire ZT line. There is no stock on the shelves with pretty much any ZT sku today. The 0560/61 will be difficult for quite some time.

I'm unsure what your patient level and expectations are, so it's tough for me to gauge on whether the delivery fits you.

ZT's are nowhere near Kershaw when it comes to volume. Priorities and that darn factory capacity ceiling keeps day to day interesting....

I am just blown away with people's attitudes about a friggen knife. Makes me wonder how they cope with life at all. There is a great big world full of all kinds of cool/adventurous stuff...get out and experience some of it.

I find it very refreshing that KIA conducts its self unlike most of the corporate world. The bottom line doesn't seem to be about how to make the most money.

I am sure it will be closer to summer before my pre-order is filled. I am the only one that can make that a negative!

EDIT: I thought I was posting in the New ZT/Hinderer Flipper is coming!!!0650/0651 thread where it would be more relevant.

Why, because I was wondering if I'd maybe, possibly get a 0561, if I pre-order it? Not the end of the world if I don't, I had a Tilt on pre-order and it didn't come through and I'm still out there in the great big world full of adventurous stuff experiencing it, whether you think so or not. As far as I know this is the Kershaw forum and the place to ask questions about them and the ZT line, despite what you may think.

Thanks Thomas. I guess I should have just asked if there was a limited number to be made or not. I don't mind being on the pre-order list at all, as long as there's a reasonable chance to get one, no matter if it's later, rather than sooner.

Thomas do some of these have the tightened up lock bar cut and some not? From the looks of the one it this thread it looks like the one with the bigger gap, but I know you said you tightened it up, is that for the next run? or part of this run as well? Thanks.

Despite the 0560/61 being a cataloged item, there will be a limited number of them produced in 2012. That goes in line with pretty much every ZT.

The first parts cut were cut prior to us making the change. Think like couple hundred pieces. Current parts being processed are as I mentioned prior. We're in process of yet another change that will fall in the middle of both of these. Mostly do to difficulty in having to clear the burs with the tight cut.

Thomas, can you give us a ballpark number within 100 or so what a limited number of 560/561 produced in 2012 means without putting yourself out on a limb ?

Thomas, I know everyone is firing questions off left right and centre but will all the 561's have the small changes you have made to production?

Like the smaller gap on the lockbar?

The pictures I posted were all 0561's, so yes.

The 0561's should all have the narrower lockbar cutout. Like Thomas said, the first ones will have the really narrow cutout, and then the rest will have the middle of the road cutout (look at and 0300 for an idea of what the final lockbar cut will look like).
