EpicSnuggleBunny / austonh austonh , apparently talked to them and they argued that they are at their production capacity limit with current models, hence it didn't make sense to add more knives to the line up for the time being. A shame but at least somewhat understandable.

Yep, the new 2017 models have all surpassed sales expectations and are still going very strong; which is preventing them from moving onto any new models yet. The 0470 was green-lighted to be shared Friday morning of Blade show. Certainly a good problem to have for ZT, even though we enthusiasts are not the most patient bunch.

Hey guys, I wasn’t sure where to post this but I just got in my 0393 today and I am not sure if I should send it back or if this is normal. I’m not a huge knife guy so I wanted to ask.

The action is very stiff and gritty. It feels like there is sand in the pivot. I thought maybe the pivot was over tightened so I loosened it 1/4 turn and it caused the blade to rub the titanium on the presentation side. So I re tightened it and lubed it with some nano oil. It’s still the same. It doesn’t come close to falling free like my 0562 does.

I just know that a $240 knife should not feel like this. The flipping action is horrible. The blade is centered at the tip but the Middle of the blade almost rubs the presentation side of the frame and is off centered which you can see in the picture. I saw some reviews on YouTube and there’s were flipping fantastic. It’s almost like the blade is crooked but centered at the tip.

I don’t want to cause any issues I just don’t know what to do.
Purchased my first zt 452 first day approx 20 flips the knife got stuck. Blade and screws where loose. Sent in to ZT figured everyone has a bad day. Just received back after almost a month. Screws falling out AGAIN! Talked to a Dan. His only option send back do it all over. I asked can I please just exchange for a new same model. No we don’t do that. I can send you postage and you can send back. I said that being without a knife for 2 months that’s brand new never used is completely unexceptable . His answer was that’s all they would do.

I told Dan that I would warn others of this experience. I will sell the knife and move on to better more reliable brands . The materials sound great but the execution is clearly poor. I have a Koenig , Benchmades , spiderco, etc... never this poor service or chain of events . They failed twice with documentation to prove and did nothing besides give lame answers. This knife will not hold up to any of the above mentioned clearly Buyer beware There customer service was horrible

I have had great customer service from ZT. That said, I have had to send in a ton of my ZTs in for warranty work, some more than one. It's odd because framelocks are supposed to be such simple designs, which should indicate reliable, maintenance-free folders. I have had very few (really almost none) issues with my compression locks, CBBL locks, Triads, backlocks, etc.

So simple yet they won’t exchange a brand new lemon they can’t fix never before used makes one think

I am not sure about the bold part. The cutout of the blade tang and lockbar seems to be very tricky such that if not done well, all sorts of issues can happen: lock slip, lock sticky, lock travel to the opposite side, and lock rock.

The machism if used to do any kind of work feels like it would easily break . My crooked river feels like a tank next to this the solution to solve a customer with documentation would be to exchange 1 new knife that’s a lemon for the same working model. Keep in mind it stopped working 2 times never been carried and not in my possession for 24 hours total. Horrid answer by customer service to many great knife companies out there now with far superior products and customer service

Nah. Framelocks are so prevalent because they are so easy to construct. They genuinely offer no other advantage over other lock designs. The one piece of important geometry -- that of the blade tang / lock face -- is precisely understood now and has been done to death by everyone and their papa.

I held the same belief as you per framkelock until recently when I got cut badly by a well-known knife of framelock due to lock slipping.

Fair enough. :)

There's no excuse for that, though. Frame locks should be easy to do.

The goal of the warranty department is to fix a problem knife, not replace it right away. If want you wanted was a replacement your best bet would have been to return it to the dealer you purchased from and have them give you a different one....then the dealer can handle the CS/return. Generally one doesn't engage the warranty team until you are outside the return timeframe for dealers. (no excuse for bad CS though, sounds like they could have done a better job of explaining the issue and your options)

There has to be something more going on here...hate to see you give up on a brand that has one of the best reputations in the business because of one experience. They have thousands of happy customers (many on this forum) Besides...once you have to deal with Benchmade or Spyderco CS reps you may be singing a different song:-)

It really all depends on who you happen to talk to. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Spyderco and BM warranty departments and 2, yes 2, bad experiences with ZT. I don't blame or write off the brand for it, just figure who I talked to or who worked on my knife wasn't at their best that day.

I purchased a 0462 a week earlier got in car started flipping and heard rattle. Went back to dealer they claimed it was supposed to rattle they exchanged anyway. flipped 4-5 times in store heard more rattle the dealer angrily returned ridiculous. Whatever ZT was in the past thats 3 knives different models being sold with issues. Im not one to keep a knife in a draw and not use my guess is if I used for anything more than a box or paper the thing would break. Check out the youtube channels of being used tested. The completely FAIL. but thanks for kind words,
