Zero Tolerance might be the best thing to ever happen to knives.

ZT didn't develop any locking mechanisms, nor did they develop the pocket clip or the one hand opening folder. They don't sell parts on their website (like EKI), nor do they develop their products to be highly efficient tools (like Spyderco). Oh yeah, Benchmade offered custom grade knives way before ZT (Custom shop and Gold Class)

So, in short, ZTs contribution to the knife world really isn't any more than a drop in the bucket.

I dont know that ZT is the greatest thing to happen to knives, but of all the Shot Show offerings that I've seen - their (& Kershaw's) new lineup is the most impressive.

ZT is pure awesome to me. Their knives are so well built with original designs, the people running the company are doing a good job of executing their plan of making the brand the high end arm of the company. I know there's a huge market who love off shore made Kershaws but they aren't for me, mainly because of the steel that hold them back and since they don't use Kershaw for knives like the Volt3600, I'm all ZT at this point in time.

With that being said, I'm not sure about claiming it as the most innovative company. Perhaps that is confused with putting a big number of original, cool knives but for one they are frame/liner lock heavy. Love the lock, but call it a spade. What are they innovating? They are breaking new ground in what production knives can be but in terms of materials, lock, etc., it seems that their focus is more on perfecting what is already out there.

I agree that there may have been a bit of hyperbole by the op but this post reeks of sour grapes.

Would there have been a spyderco domino or southard without the 0560? Why does zt need to see parts when they will send them to you for free? Benchade gold class knives are nothing more than dressed up regular production models.

No one else is coming out with unique high end limited production pieces. Changing colors and blade steel no longer cuts it. Even the 0560cbcf and upcoming 0801cf have different machining patterns than the standard model.

I agree that ZT may be one of the best things to happen to knives, but lets also include Spyderco and what they have in with sprint runs in higher end steels and the mule line where you can get so many different steels made to into the exact same knife allowing apples for apples testing between different types of steel. ZT and Spyderco, two of my favorites.

I'm glad ZT has broadened its horizons instead of the big, heavy and all-black knives in its first few years. More stonewashed, variety and sizes. For example, 0566 and 0770 and now 0562 plus 0620. Also, glad that in the 0562CF and 0620CF they decided against heavily contoured and milled CF. Lowers the price and increases production. Moving from so much in Elmax into other steels helps defuse mostly unfounded arguments in certain circles. Glad we're seeing more in M390: 0777-M390, 0777-M390BLK, 0350M390, 0801CF, 0562CF and 0620CF (still hoping for a 0454-M390).

In a way, I'm also glad there were no limited edition releases at the SHOT Show. I think they may have gone a little overboard on those with 0560CBCF, 0777, 0777-M390, 0777-M390BLK, 0600, 0600BLK, 0888, 0888MAX, 0801CF and 0454. Mind you, these are tough & cutting edge (sometimes bleeding edge) projects but also limits them production-wise and with associated delays. 0888MAX is still not out! I'm sure 0801CF is not too far off and 0454 who knows!

Yea, and I still have every one of them. And I completely agree.

The conundrum for me is going to be when I run out of other knives to finance my ZT's. Get a third job, sell the kids, sell the farm, the family jewels.?... I see some difficult decisions in my not so distant future.
NOT the FAMILY JEWELS!:D sorry my humor seems to be hovering around the 6th grade level this morning.
Back on subject. I see a few more ZT being purchased by me this year.

Zero Tolerance ZT-9 is discontinued. It is interesting how many knives they have produced for the production period.
