I've just been getting into collecting knives, my last purchase a week ago a Benchmade 375 D2. I am really into these premium alloys and I am looking to purchase another one soon. For what I've been looking into for the price and type of knives I am into, it would seem Zero Tolerance would be very hard to beat as far as quality of steel and price! I know there are tons of threads on different steel alloys and such but I would love to hear and learn from you all here about the types of steel ZT uses that do seem quite amazing, and if there are in fact other knives or brands that I may want to look into that would compare with ZT on quality and price? Very excited to get some learn on!

ZT makes a quality product!

This pretty much sums it up. I'd stay away from Elma's though, they might burn through the heat treatment when grinding but that's the only thing I'd worry about. They have excellent CS as well.

I'd say if you want overbuilt folders ZT is the way to go for premium steels, if you want a little more for what you pay Spyderco is up there for good value blades.

Over built and Elmax. If your fine with both have at it. Whats up with all the ZTs with Elmax anyway? They have a sale on it?

I have been enjoying ZT's Elmax (0566) and S35VN (0550) quite a bit. I've used the 0566 a lot, and it holds a great edge for me through a lot of cardboard and some plastic.

They also offer M390 on the 0562cf, which is probably worth getting into if steels crank your motor.

The Blade Forum introduced me to Zero Tolerance and I have tried other brands I will only buy ZTs now. They use several different steels and you can go small 0566 or big 0300. Great customer service and a quality product.

The key to any steel, even super steel is the correct heat treat. So one company may do say S35VN at one hardness and another company does it at another hardness to suit their knives intended purpose. Just make sure you figure out how hard/soft you like your steel and go with that maker.

That being said, ZT is good stuff. Reading a few threads should give you a good idea about that.

Thanks all, the more and more I'm looking and reading here at ZT I'm starting to get that itch, that rush of narrowing down the new friend! I used to really be into Tantos but started veering away from them as far as practicality goes, but the ZT0700 in S30V and G-10 Handles is really catching my eye! So are both the ZT0566CF Rick Hinderer in Elmax and the ZT0350T Tigerstriped in S30V. I love fixed blades and both the Hinderer Field Tac and Shifter are looking so sweet. Seeing as I just bought the Benchmade 375 fixed last week I think I'll def be going to a folder this upcoming purchase.

Welcoming any other suggestions for folders and fixed blades in premium alloys up to the 160-200 dollar mark!

Love me some ZT. Great value for the quality you are getting. Have some Spydies and BMs, but the majority of mine are ZT. We need pics.

I just got the ZT 0770CF on Monday and I am very very impressed with the fit and finish. Highly recommend a ZT.

I have been nothing but impressed with zt and their elmax. I've got the 0770cf, 0561, and 0801. Next will be the 0808, which hopefully will be out in time for my birthday in. April. Best of luck.

I love spyderco as well--I have five. Check out the Gayle Bradley, pm2 and manix 2.

I heard a rumor that the new ZT0392 will be out soon, you should look into picking one up. I heard a rumor that they will be really nice and really limited, maybe hard to get..... :)
