Zero Tolerance vs. Cold Steel

The lock could fail and take a finger off. That's not a statement against any one company or lock type, it's just something that can go wrong with a knife that generally doesn't go wrong with a watch or TV.

so, of what steels was the original san mai made off?

(mainly aimed at a certain japanese member of BF who posts here occasionally, who seems to have experiance with the real thing)

I think he means original, as in the laminated steel made by Japanese people hundreds (thousands?) of years ago.

Did Cold Steel ever produce an original knife? (or have produced)

Is it originality or functionality and quality we should be concerned with? I'd steer clear of CS if I thought its steel or quality control were lacking. But, originality? Puulleeaase! There are so many copies, imitations, and tributes of so many knives out there already. The 710? Ever seen it? How many different copies and imitations? I've even seen some knockoffs of some of my favorite Fallknivens.

i have a cs caledonian edge, & it is one wicked blade. it is very well made, has a needle point,& is super sharp. the pictures of it do not do it justice, especially those cs illustration type pictures.its one of my favorite knives.its been out about 3 years, & i never thought twice about it, untill a friend of mine showed me one over the winter. i got it about 3 weeks later.he has 2 black sables, they are real cool, too, very solid & well made. you should try to take a look at them in person.maybe ill post a good picture of the caledonian.

I am committing myself to get a CS in the next few months. The CS Sisu. That one just calls to me.

I just asked what knives in their line are not copies of other pre-existing knives. I realize patterns of knives are copied as time goes by. But, there are some companies that seem to not have any or hardly any close copies of other blades. Spyderco comes to mind and Benchmade has a lot of original designs as well. -So what patterns are Cold Steel's very own? As far as being fresh and new.

Not sure but:

American style Tantos---think they invented/popularized that whole blade/point style--fixed + folders--everyone copies them on that.

Vaquero.

Kraton handles.

LTC/ATC/etc (unless all Khukuri types are unoriginal)

Trailmaster/Recon Scout/etc (unless all bowie types are unoriginal)
