Zero Tolerance

I like ZT. ZT came out right as I was getting seriously into knives and I and many others were super excited about them. I think the 300 series is one of the best production knives out there. I've had quite a few and unfortunately ended up selling them for financial reasons but I really wish I still had my 500, 200, 300, I kind of forget some of the other models.

I do actually still have a 801 prototype that Thomas W. at ZT gave me :)

Only 40? So, you're still cautious about the brand?

LOL! 40's not enough?

Owned around 5-10 others -- like a 0500, a 0900, a 0700, a 0452TiBlu, a 0630 and a few others -- that I've sold in the past but the 40 that I've still got are the one's I'm keeping and have no intention of selling. :)

Just bought a 0180 that rounds out my collection of ZT fixed blades, a 0452Ti to add to my collection of 0452s and also bought another 0400 PE to replace one in lesser condition in my collection that will soon be posted for sale in the Exchange.

For U.S. production knives they're great, solid build quality. I've never had issues with any of mine. There's different models (new and old) to choose from all with a different feel. I'm dragging my feet on buying the new 0308, but I'll get it eventually.

Sarge, I'm not suggesting that BladeForums needs to stage an intervention, but when a man says "I still own 40 of them," it may be time to discuss your Starbucks intake. We're all friends here. It's okay.

I thought I've demonstrated great restraint in only owning 40 ZTs which is "only "about 10% of my collection.

It's the Spydercos that really got out of hand. I still own 150 of them.

LOL! ;)

Correction: I'm currently at 42 ZTs and 156 Spydercos w/plans to sell 1 ZT and 3 or 4 Spydercos.

I like the brand, the 308 is the only one that spoke out to me with their current offerings.

I have a 0450 and an 0460 and they are obviously high quality well styled knives. I’ve had others and they all have amazing action. My 0450 has the smoothest flipping action of any knife I’ve owned. Sometimes the designs go too far for my tastes.

IMO the best ZTs are those designed by and collaborated with famous Knife makers like Hinderer, Emerson, Onion, and Sinkvich. I am never appealed by their in-house designs including 0308. So, the best ZT folders IMO are 0562, 0452, and 0392/3.

I’ve really liked a lot of them over the years, but I’ve been disappointed the past few years, both with their designs and the modest number of new models offered. They were so huge for awhile; maybe this year will be a big comeback for them. I’d love to see them branch out into some different lock types and steels besides the usual 20CV the past few years.

The 308 is ok.

Personally, I don't like the hole in the frame but it's the closest thing to "old school" that they've made recently.

I don't like the ones made by ZT because it is only offered w/the coyote tan scales w/a satin blade or w/black scales and a tiger striped blade. I hate tiger stripes as much as I hate coyote tan scales. However, I do like the black scaled/satin blade version offered by US Made Blade.

The bronze annodized ZT 0640s offered by "US Made Blade" and "Blades We Love" have also recently captured my attention. I like the ones offered by Blades We Love better and one of them is on my EB "watch list."

However, neither the 0308 or 640 is anywhere near the top of my buy list but they are possible buys, if the price is right and there's nothing else that I want to buy at the moment.

I liked them along my ascent in knife collecting. For me it was a step beyond Spyderco or Benchmade, but before I made the leap to Chris Reeve, Hinderer, and SHF models. They do have some designs I enjoyed and still own, including the 0470 (like a flipper Sebenza), the 0562 in both carbon fiber and the orange/black sprint run, and the 0550, which is just a really fun knife. But I get that they're not for everybody.

Funny you mention that, I got mine from USA Made Blade. That's the biggest reason I picked it up. Even though the 640 is sweet, it's a little small for me.
The 456 is a short knife, but the stockiness make up for the size, I've got a couple 0801's, and 452's. I've got a small collection of about 15 ZT's now.

What do y'all like about ZT? I've gotten my hands on a few of their knives, and besides the 0308 (which was kinda too big...) I haven't really liked any of them.

It does look like they're easy to mod, and lots of people make custom hardware for them, which would be neat, but I just haven't loved the knives themselves.

Y'all's opinions?
ZT makes a great knife, though not all are winners. Hard to beat their service and support.

Other than the 0308, what other ZT’s have you handled and what is your opinion of each of them?

I love the 0392 and the 056X are all great knives.I’ve had my eye on an 0470 for a while. Why not share your specific thoughts?
