You clearly don't know BladeForums well enough.
The amount of time it would have taken Rick to produce 1000 sets of hardware would have been forever prompting SCORES of, how come ZT takes forever getting knives to market threads.
Then, if 1000 were released (with serial numbers going over 1000 to account for knives that don't pass QC), it would be the 0560cbcf all over again with scores of, why even bother making it limited if there's so many, why does the resale value on my LE suck, how can you even call it limited, I can't believe I spent so much on this knife when there's so many (all actual complaints brought up here about the 0560cbcf which was the only LE to be produced in the 1000ish piece range, that we know of).
Scurvy, you need to lighten up. I understand that you are a member of the Order of KAI, but you are being far too defensive. So, with that being said, let me address some of your points here;
I know BladeForums very well, I've been on here daily for many years.
Look at my profile and then check out the "About Me" section. Do you see where it says Mechanical Engineer? I have an extremely good idea of how long it takes to make 1000 sets of hardware, far less time than you think. Have you ever heard of a HAAS CNC machine? I know Rick Hinderer has, and I bet that he has a machine shop filled with them.
You seem to miss my point about running this release to 1000 units. My point being is to completely do away with their idea of "Limited Edition" altogether. I believe the 0560cbcf is a great example, so thank you for bringing it up. The only people whose feelings got hurt were those trying to "cash in" on what they perceived as limited numbers. I could care less about those people, if they want to cash in or make some money, do what I did and start a business! Did everyone who wanted an 0560cbcf get one? I think they did. Did everyone who wanted an 0392 get one? I think that you know the answer to that.
