this blade snaps closed and once a month...nails my thumb knuckle.....the detent and small handle sets up for failure when your not paying attention. Any one else?

nope...the tang is strong when closing. It holds up when you are not thinking about it, then breaks free and slams the thumb knuckle

im not an idiot, to close this small handled knife your forced to put your thumb into the finger guard. if you don't catch it right....I have a bleeding thumb knuckle. Its a snappy closing knife if you miss the guard IMHO....I wish I knew what your post count was or date of joining BF....so I know if to take your response seriously hhmoore...;)

if you take the knife in and out of your pocket and really use it....you will slip up and it sucks. Sure it flips open like a rocket, but it also closes like one

Sounds like you really putting you thumb nuckle in danger every time you close framelocks. For me if the blade goes down it will miss my nuckle and hit the nail. You know like the trick they show you in every knife review video and catch the blade on thumb nail to show how amazing action is when you depress the lockbar... Keep your knuckles away and let the flipper touch your nail at the point the detent is already passed. Its late with this model but safety first

Just close the knife properly and there is no problem. Hold onto the blade so it does not close. Move your finger out of the way. Its not rocket science.

Feb 2014, 3000+ posts.
Closing a knife without cutting yourself is not rocket science. (Sure, accidents happen; but if you're getting cut once a month - as you claim - it's time to modify your technique. Turn the knife sideways, or edge up, before releasing the lock bar...the blade won't come slamming down on your thumb, and you'll have plenty of time to get it out of the way as you close the blade. (I generally use my index finger or leg to push the blade closed)

Stop putting so much pressure on the blade when closing. It's your technique, nothing to do with the design.

Its not me. I feel like you shouldn't have to think and position everytime i need to use the knife for a second. Im fine, I built a callus up. The design is just tough to work around with such a narrow handle. I use one hand to open and close. Thats the point of these types of blades IMHO. The finger guard is small and can easily miss catching my thumb, and then the blade will fall on my knuckle. Sure if I really think about it, this will not happen. When im in the middle of working and holding stuff up while cutting. My focus is not on how im going to close my knife properly. Im used to the benchmade 940 and am starting to miss it

Yup!
Had one for a couple of years and have never cut my thumb closing.
Alter your technique brother.

Doesn't the tip of the blade touch his thumb the last time me closes the knife in the video?

what the video doesnt show is if you have pressure on the lockbar or are not completely free from the detent. The blade will snap closed before you get your thumb out of the way. I guess I just have to be more careful

I checked one out at a knife show. I had to be very careful opening and closing it to not have issues. I passed on buying it, even though I thought I would love it. My favorite flipper will remain my Kershaw 1910 Ram. I think my Spydie Southard would be around the same size as the ZT and I've never had to go it a second thought out of the box.
