ZT 0770CF - A True Gentleman's Folder from Zero Tolerance

Why would you want the linerlock to be titanium? It's so small I doubt the weight difference can be that big.

I think some people prefer it simply because it's a premium material versus stainless. I'm not one though...

Doesn't look like a machined pocketclip. Looks more like a standard metall clip. And I haven't seen a backspacer on the 0770cf, either.

I think you are right. Zt has changed the text on the website. It will be a metal pocket clip, backspacer (hoping aluminium) and linerlock.

On the home page of ZT it says:
" Titanium insert liner lock secures the blade without unnecessary weight"

In the tech specs and information it says:
"The sweeping lines of the original 0777 are preserved in the lightweight carbon-fiber handle that fits securely in the hand. An inset liner lock in titanium secures the blade without adding unnecessary weight. Pocketclip and backspacer are machined titanium for lightweight strength. For a final touch of class, ZT adds a handsome oversized pivot."

I have no reason not to beleve it!
I personally think it will come with titanium pocket clip, backspacer and liner lock.
On the website where I pre-ordered the knife the same was mentioned.

I tried to address this on Friday, but for some reason, Bladeforums wasn't working right and I couldn't post.

The inset lockbar on this knife is made of 410 stainless steel. In my opinion, there is virtually nothing to gain from making a small thin part like this out of titanium - you open yourself up to sticky lockup, increase cost, and the weight savings isn't really noticeable. On a full framelock handle it can be worthwhile, but not a small part like this one. Just my opinion.

The pocket clip is the same bent metal deep carry clip that was used on the original 0770 prototype.

The marketing team updated the website on Friday to fix this typo.

Thanks for the info! I don't care if it is a steel liner. Still think it's a hell of knife! :-)

Titanium liners have been used before, and some still use them. I don't want to sound like I'm trashing the practice in general. It's just that the cost/benefit ratio of using a titanium liner doesn't work out favorably for this particular product.

Yeah I love titanium too. I respect the chemistry! kudos if you get the reference
But for a liner I'd rather have stainless.

I'm in the "I prefer titanium because it's cooler group" (see the 0566 thread)but I agree that in this case in a liner lock, stainless has its benefits and any advantage titanium has is very negligible. This is a non issue for me, I am very excited for the 0770CF.

A lot of people are under the pretense that Ti is inherently stronger than steel, so they think that steel is somehow a downgrade.

Ti can be stronger than steel, given a set weight. Weight is the key here, not volume. If you were to take two lock bars of the same VOLUME (NOT weight), the steel lock bar would be stronger all day every day. If you took two lock bars of the same weight (the Ti lock bar could be made more robust than the steel per the same weight) then the Ti bar could have more strength.

This confusion (in my opinion) has led to the rabid idea that it's Ti, or it's crap - which is ridiculous.

Yes, but who wants to fly around to different planets and moons with a triple-beam balance and argue about this there?

Wait...that actually sounds awesome... *grabs a balance and runs off* Peace out!

Correct, but I think you mean volume vs weight. Two items that have the same mass will have the same weight under the same pull of gravity.
Titanium is about as strong as steel, but has a lower density than steel, so you can use more of it (i.e. thicker liners) and still have the same weight. But since they're thicker, the end result is a stronger lockbar.

Volume, yes.

I really should finish my coffee before posting. :D

Really glad to hear that it's a stainless liner! My preorder is in and I'll be excited to see a shipping notice at some point in the future.
