ZT 0770CF Pics

Good to see they added some jimping to the flipper, my only complaint with the 0770 is that when it was new it was a PITA to open

My only complaint with the 0770 is that it comes assisted. De-assisted, it's not much better a flipper than Hinderers. (De-assisted, mine also squeaks!)

As to the photos of the new 0770CF -- thanks!

I like the jimping, the CF and the lighter weight.

I don't like the oversize pivot screw. Some of the photos make it look like it sticks out a bit from the handle.

I also regret the loss of the barrel spacers and the clean, open pillar construction.

Oh, well. KAI and other manufacturers have become experts at "limited editions" to get consumers to keep buying variations of the same product. Perhaps the next 0770 iteration will have barrel spacers and CF.

Can't please everyone, you can at least pick the one (if any exist) that meets the bulk of your criteria. I guess the ultimate goal is to build the item that pleases as many people as possible and for a reasonable price. Doing the best one can is the only thing a person can do, there will always be detractors and praise on the way shortly.

Amen to that. KAI's doing a fantastic job in that regard.

Great looking knife. Hope to fondle one someday.

I was interested until I saw the pivot screw sticks out and heard the knife does not flip well when deassisted.

Smooth and quick. Lockup and release are perfect as well. And as far as the pivot screws are concerned, mine sit dead flush on the scales, so I'm guessing it's an optical illusion. I don't even mind the assisted open and the backspacer. All in all, it's a great knife and a terrific first attempt on ZT's part at producing something other than a pocket brick. I'm happy as a clam to be able to finally carry a ZT knife.

I urge ZT to continue producing more lightweight models like the 0770CF. If they don't, however, the 0770CF will take care of me quite nicely.

Thanks, ZT! :)

Of course you can't please everyone all of the time. And all of us are glad that KAI offers so many good choices.

But I'm starting to feel a little silly chasing all the "limited editions" or just color or style changes. I've got three versions of the 560 series, three of the 550-551 series, and more versions of the JYD than I can count. And now the same models are coming out blackwashed.

Choices are great. But if I don't like a change, I won't feel compelled to buy every latest model just to keep up. (Or will I?)

Does some body know where they have one left in stock??? Need to have one right now! :D

How much does the pivot actually stick out? Or is it an optical illusion?

My guess would be somewhere not enough to be an actual issue and just enough to rack the nerves of the OCD.

The pivot screw is not flush with the handle scales. It maybe sticks out 1/32nd of an inch. You can notice it if your rub your fingers across the length of the scales, but that's about it. It is unnoticeable in hand when cutting, as well as in pocket. The pocket clip screws actually stick out further than the pivot screw.

Mine came in today, and it is a beauty!

Some initial impressions (having only had the knife in my possession for about an hour so far)... The CF scales feel great in hand. They're smooth, but still pretty grippy (more so than the aluminum scales). ZT added a little jimping to the flipper, so it is easier to catch with your finger and deploy. The jimping along the liner lock was removed, which doesn't appear to affect grip (when open) or when disengaging the lock. True to ZT's pedigree, the knife has a very solid feel to it. The CF scales themselves look fantastic, and it's semi-polished on the inside of the scales as well (probably not really polished, but smoothed out to where you can see the definition of the carbon fiber). The barrel spacers were swapped out with a solid backspacer, which looks more like the 0777. The oversized pivot also looks great, again, more resembling the 0777. Final thought... YOU NEED THIS KNIFE!

And now some pics (click for higher res):

As you get yours in, Post More Pics!

Thats a beauty!! Grats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ZT site says "in stock" as I write this.

Does anyone know who the designer is?

If it's 1/32 of an inch, you should be able to insert a piece of paper between the pivot screw and the scale. I can't do that with mine. Can you do it with yours? If you can, your knife is defective. Return it to your dealer for an exchange or send it in to ZT for repair or replacement.
