Zt 0770cf

The 0770 is an awesome knife. Mine has worked its way back into my pocket for the last couple of weeks.

I'm not sure exactly when it was, but ZT did change up the CF some time back. Here's a shot of my 0770CF (older style CF) and 0770CFM4 (new style CF).

I have the CFM4 version and love it - I have been carrying it every day - it is just a perfect little companion knife and the blade profile is great for slicing, which is a good deal of what I use a knife for on a daily basis.

The CF is the newer "peel-ply" material that ZT has been using for over a year now -

Are you saying it's faux carbon fiber

The first thing I did when I got my 0770cf was replace the pocket clip with a 0566/0801 pocket clip....that made it perfect for me

I've been waiting for this one postman dropped it off like 15mins ago.
I'll be flipping this the rest of the day....I like it so far.

Next to my other CF's
ZT, 940-1 and 484-1

How does it compare to your 940-1, do you have a preference?

My pleasure!

The peel ply has a little more texture to it, presumably for better grip. It is very pleasing to the touch and to look at, in my opinion.

Love it! I sharpen alot of knives. That's alot of work. Both reprofiling and mirroring. My ZT is very sharp after stroping with fine CBN. I could imagine the slicing power of that bevel. Impressive.

What do you use to get that edge?

I used Edge Pro Apex to reprofile the edge down from 21 dps to 14 dps. Then went up from 120 grit stone to 1,000 grit. I gave a micro bevel with their 2,000 polishing tape and stropped with Pikal compound, which is recommended by Rockstead. M390 is really easy to put a polished edge even with my skills. And yes, it cuts very well.

Hey flarp, what the verdict between the Elmax and the CPM M4? Any observation between the two?

I have other knives with peel ply, and of my samples, I really like the look and feel of my earlier production smooth CF. I think it works great as a Gentleman's Folder which has become my go-to church knife. Have to say church because there are not many other activities that my wife can get me to wear a tie. ;).

Anyway, now that I've seen these two side by side, I must say that I'm pretty strongly leaning toward.....GETTING THE OTHER ALSO!!!! Dang it, you people are really bad for me. Now I just have to try them side by side. "Audrey, don't shoot me, but I'm going to bring in a bunch of duplicates again." Pray for me fella's. She's like an angry badger when she's on a knife rampage. [emoji16][emoji41]

I actually haven't put the M4 one through any appreciable use yet. The Elmax has gotten a fair amount of use though, and I like it a lot. Touch-ups on the Sharpmaker are easy, and it takes and holds a very keen edge. I do regular touch-ups about once a week (whether or not the knife really "needs" it), so I haven't let it get dull yet.

I'd expect the M4 one would resist wear better, so if you generally use your knives until they are dull before touch-ups or sharpening, then you may be able to go for longer with the M4 blade.

Great info brother.

I'm loving this knife a ton!

Here's a a comparison to the new Kershaw Link budget folder.
