ZT 0777 - KAI customer service email

Ok so I have been reading these forums for a long time but never wanted to post before but I just had to here.

A lot of you guys have rose-colored glasses on about this, I know we all like Kershaw but lets be real. The real take away I got from Thomas’s update was that “getting the 0777 to market was not a priority”. It wasn’t that machining was taking a long time, or waiting on parts, or assembly problems. It was they stopped caring about it. The thing they had already presented to the world, the thing that we, their die hard fans wanted, and they kept telling us they were working on (and was coming soon) the whole time just wasn’t worth working on.

Not that I like or own any Microtech but how do you think they were able to copy the knife and get it to market a year before Kershaw even without seeing it before Blade? They actually care about what enthusiasts want to buy and make getting it to market a priority.

I have no idea why Kershaw would (by their own admission) blow off their most ardent fans, I guess they got more tied up in what other companies were doing than thinking about their own customers.

If you are reading this, if you bought more than two ZT knives in the last year, if you have a 0777 reserved, that likely puts you in the top 1% of Kershaw’s customers. I would think that would make us their highest priority. It is a shame we aren’t.

I am still looking forward to the knife but I am not going to pretend that this isn’t a customer service failure.

These are the kind of posts that drove Thomas to leave IMO:thumbdn:

I'm not sure how many Microtech managed to squeeze out. Probably not that many.

Based on Jimmer's picture, there seemed to be a few dozen 0777's completed so far. I don't think Microtech has a significantly higher number of copies floating out there, but they made the decision to put them up for sale at their whim. On the other hand, ZT's production capacity is pretty tight, since a good deal of it has to be allocated to other models - ones which will probable generate a higher volume of sales.

Apparently you Don't own or know anything about MT..Worst CS I've ever had the pleasure of Dealing with.. And caring about knife fans wants..oooh yea they cared so much about them they stole a design and charged insane prices for them. I bet they're Totally Worth the $1500+ because Tony touched it with his hands...He is Sooo Caring.

I'm not mad its talking awhile..once again its just a knife..and you don't have to wait, no one is making you buy it. .. And more so Kershaw/ZT never had to make it...Hell they never had to Create Zero Tolerance.... They could have pumped out Leeks, Blurs, etc till the end of time and would have been fine. I'm sure there are making little to no money off of the ZT0777. They made it because they could, not because they had to. And I love them for that. I for one can't wait for it to come out..Not to Have...But more so To Shut everyone the Hell up as they realize "Wow It was worth the Wait" and Smile..Its Going to be a Good day when that happens..

I'd say you have a skewed and extremely self-oriented perspective on the production knife world and community. Kershaw cares about doing what they do(making money, making good/great knives, keeping people happy) and Microtech cares about what they do(painstakingly building knives of almost perfect aesthetics, and trying to keep the lights on doing it). Neither company is really building the knives for their "their die hard fans". They are building them for Amazon, Walmart and the many different outlets that they have for their knives. It would take so many of "their die hard fans" to make a financial difference to the bottom line that you don't seem to understand it.

I have no idea why Kershaw would (by their own admission) blow off their most ardent fans, I guess they got more tied up in what other companies were doing than thinking about their own customers.

A customer service failure is when you purchase a knife and they don't fix it to as-good-as possible condition. A customer service failure is not answering the telephone, e-mail or letter. A customer service failure is discontinuing a knife and not providing parts or a fix for it when it is broken.

The fact that Kershaw is not making the knife you want to buy(how many are you planning on purchasing, and where from....online e-tailer?....'cause it's the cheapest there? Quit your whining, you are part of the WHOLE problem if that is the case) is not a customer service failure....it is disappointing to you. Get off the computer, turn off your video game, wash behind your ears, and remove any thoughts that your are somehow ENTITLED to a knife that has not had a full producition run yet. Go play in the sunshine, you will feel better.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Wow, one post wonder!
Seen that so many times I could puke. :barf:
"I've been on here sooooo long but I just had to act and save all of you from the evil."

Go to hell.

Oregon Gopher, you're a "special" person , I think you need to rethink a few things in you're life of entitlement. Thanks for the wonderful first post, hope to see you around :thumbdn:

My hats off to ZT for taking the time to get this product right before they bring it to market.

Based on the time it has taken, they will probably have ~ $1000 into the knife which they will sell for much less. They could have easily just scraped the product.

My biggest disappointment with the 0777 is that I'll most likely never get one. My knife nuttery didn't get into full swing until after all of the pre-orders closed. When they start hitting the secondary market I expect that demand will push the price up to a level that I won't be willing to pay. Even the $480 I was seeing them listed for would be quite a big chunk of change for me. If I ever find one for close to that and it's lefty-friendly I'll probably grab it.

Does anyone happen to know if the pocket clip will be reversible for us lefties? If it isn't that would be a deal-breaker for me. It looks like a beautiful knife.

A while back I thought I read where the steel ended up being the original N360. I see Chester stated Vanex 35 a couple of days ago but I don't recall that announcement.

I know they tried several different steels to get the one that worked best.

I almost forgot I jumped on this pre order the first day Kershaw Dave had em up. Kind of forgot about the whole knife all together. Hope I can come up with the $ moolah in time otherwise might have to pass it on to someone else.
