Sure it would, by about .50 cents maybe $1.50 if your lucky wow such big savings.

Finding a pouch the right size to buy on the secondary market would likely cost much more but the real cost would be the PITA of locating a perfect size for every knife you have. Don't make things harder for us knife guys now.
Umm, just “NO”. Who needs right-sized pouches to keep their knives in? You’re reaching for a solution to a problem nobody has.

Enjoy your zippered pouch though.

I am sorry to say with me it you like boxes and papers you will have to get over it. A nice little compact padded case that I don't mind keeping around will likely go a long way towards insuring the knife wont have scratches or be loaded with crusty dust bunnies. You can always wash the case if the outside has crusty dust bunnies. Try that with cardboard.
A cardboard box will likely tie the knife to a brand, serial number and sometimes even variant identification and a manufacture date.

Try getting that from a generic pouch.

I’m trying hard to not disagree with you too vehemently because it’s only Wednesday.

Every Kydex sheath from David comes with a caramel. I like that :).
I've never gotten a caramel with a sheath... must be ordering from the wrong David

I have, however, gotten tiny packs of Haribo gummies with my new scales.

I use the pouches to store knives, but would not expect a mark up on the price. Pretty sure they get them very cheap in bulk. They give good protection in the drawer IMO.
But just like the boxes, if the maker sent the knife without, I would not be devastated.

I don't have any use for the pouches or the boxes they come in.
I kept the boxes for awhile, decided I was storing essentially garbage.

I do use the stickers they provide can be kinda fun.

The zipper pouches are handy when you’re selling knives. But I prefer them to be generic so I don’t have to track down which one goes with which knife. I throw everything else away (box, papers, stickers, etc.), with the exception of any cards or certificates that have important information about the knife that’s not on the knife itself or available online. E.g., the cards that come with CRKs showing steel type/date of manufacture/etc., or a custom maker’s card with the knife materials written on it.

Taco pouches are extremely useless, along with most other included garbage.

The molle belt sheaths Benchmade black class knives used to come with were pretty useful though.

I like the taco pouches. Great for traveling. Knives don't bang around in the suitcase, plus it's an added layer of protection from TSA as its not immediately obvious what it is. Especially since I cram them into my shoes (I wear a size 14 wide which helps) which helps with making them even more inconspicuous.

Dang, I didn't realize so many people didn't like the zippered pouches. Shoot, I could use a few extras if anyone's about to throw a load away. I like them. I've been through a lot of phases in my life, some where I'd kind of fallen out of big interest in knives. During those times the pouches are very handy because they protect each knife from the others when they're all sitting next to eachother in a box or tote or whatever. I have a few knives that I've been planning to sell for months but just keep putting it off, those pouches are very handy for that too. I'll clean them up all nice and put them in a zippered pouch with a silica thing in it, so it's nice and clean and protected from corrosion for the next guy. I also keep knife boxes and everything that came with the knife for the same reason.

This! I like the pouches for backpack trips, I want to carry a few knives and in the pouches they are pretty protected.

If manufacturer orders pouches and gets them shipped to their shop it definitely affects the price of the knife. Maybe not much, but it does. Maybe it's also another excuse to charge extra for making the product seem fancier.

They are definitely wasteful.

As pointed out before, they do add value if you want to resell the knife.

I got a thin Boker Barlow that came with an OK looking glass-case sized zipped case with three compartments, that basically necessitated the use of a bigger box for the knife.
I see no need to use a large case if I am carrying small knife.
A small pocket knife will become a backpack knife, if I carry it in its case.
I also see no use, for me, for the case.

I don't know. None of the knives I have bought have come with a zippered pouch.

I voted for "High dollars knives" tho. It seems to be expected.

Dunno if the case is worth what you think it costs, but:

We were going through the possessions, of a relative who is no longer with us this weekend. Came across this little shammy leather pouch holding a pen knife. It is a company token award for meeting a goal or safety (or something) dating from the 1930s. The knife inside was in mint condition. The blade is sharp, still mirror bright and with a protective coating that showed my fingerprint (wiped). I may be the first to have ever opened the blade. . . .or the pouch.

Was that leather pouch "worth" anything?

Another way to look at this question. If you see an offering for two identical premium knives, and one has the zippered case but not the other one . . .which one will sell for more (all other factors being equal)?
