I don't really care too much about resale. The pouches are very useful. Keep making them, don't dc them. There is a voting button at the top of this thread.

None. But I'm quite familiar with common business practices.
Me too. I own a couple of businesses. When there is pressure to lower prices or keep them steady during inflation, it is pretty common to do away with frivolous extras to keep prices down. This would be a superb time for that.

Plus it will keep stuff out of landfills. And junk drawers.

Dayyumn. People throwing away stickers and I'm scouring around for extras like crack rocks in a dumpster.
I really hate stickers. Thankfully they are biodegradable and decompose well after throwing them out, but what about the need to stop needlessly cutting down trees.

Those ridiculous stickers and other types of cockroach food (paper boxes, paper) are really a burden and I truly can do without them.

Come on guys vote yes for the pouches on the buttons above.

Now that you have been enlightened you can even change your vote to yes by hitting the change vote button.

This thread made me to search online If Any dealers sell zipper pouches for pocket knives. Turns out at least one dealer does for 2 bucks per. Looks neat and useful.

I have a couple pouches from South African makers that are done nicer with leather name patches down on. They surely cost more, but although every cost is in the price somewhere, I don' t believe there is a premium put on. It is not like the knife in the wooden presentation box costing an extra $100, just how the maker has decided to send out his knives, and I doubt there is much damage in transit.

Some even come with a coin with the manufacturer’s logo. I suppose collect such items, but I don’t have pocket space for a coin I can’t even spend.

In theory, I appreciate the "extras".. in practice though, they (pouches especially), are generally pretty useless to me.. I do keep all of my knife boxes in case of resale, so any included pouch usually just ends up sitting in the box. I do like when manufacturers include stickers though.. I have a tool box for all of my knife paraphernalia that I put the stickers on.. cool nod to the hobby, imo..

Probably controversial but we are the cause of this not the manufacturers.

Just take a look at this forum. Value on a product increases (or at least the perception does) when you are able to list it NiB or new in box.

Take a look at knife specific youtube personalities and the ubiquitous "unboxing" videos. If you are a manufacturer, you KNOW that a huge number of people finding out about your product are coming across it via these youtube channels.

You need to provide some cache for the 'unboxing' video to catch the eye and lets be honest, a good number of these personalities will go out of their way to defecate from a great height on products that DONT have a good "unboxing experience."

So at the end of the day what do we really expect manufacturers to do here? It is an arms race and this is the absolute CHEAPEST way to compete. Produce knives with better fit and finish? Thats expensive and further, what do you do if F&F is already so close between you and your competitor its impossible to make a noticeable change? Think WE vs Reate. You could make better materials. But again that is expensive and once more, in a world where you can get S35vn and sometimes 20cv under $100 that becomes ever more difficult.

I don't understand what/why you guys are protecting your knives, other than resale.
Doesn't bother me, I have always been under the impression to be using them.
knives should be built for tough rugged situations.

Some own and view their expensive knives the same way people view expensive wrist watches and want to protect them as investments. Not my view but it's not an illegitimate way of purchasing knives and given the amount of Moku Ti out there I would think there is certainly a market for the "collector but not user"

I throw them away. I used to keep them together in a box for no good reason, but a few years back they started to get moldy, so now I just chuck them out as soon as I get them.

The closest thing I keep is cases for sunglasses, but that's because they're delicate.

I can see the reasoning there as a collection or investment.
Yet protecting your knife in a back pack or pocket doesn't really make sense to me.

I'm a collector. So, I want/keep all of the "extras" that I can get that originally came with the knife.

As for pouches, I don't know why you wouldn't keep them because they take up very little space and you can use them to safely/conveniently store/transport a knife more easily than you can w/a box.

Anyone who doesn't want their Kershaw/ZT/Spyderco pouches is welcome to "gift" them to me. LOL! ;)

I'm a fan. I like to rotate my edc knives. When I go on trips, I usually bring several along to have choices. Putting each one in a zipper pouch allows me to transport them easier. I do agree it would be a weird way to carry in a pocket.
