Without reading your posts on this subject, or watching your channel (I'm sure it worth the time, and hopefully I'll get to it), have you talked about other possibilities for the poor performance? Do you know what the Rc is? Perhaps it's HT is off? There may be an explanation outside of the steel is a complete miserable failure.

This is 100% accurate! Everyone knows Chris Reeve switched to s35vn and its great stuff. CTS what knives are you testing with s35vn that have you saying its pretty much garbage?

Not to be rude, but you obviously have no first hand experience with the steel. It's not your fault, you are merely regurgitating what you've heard here on the forums. But please, educate yourself a little before making generalizations like "s35vn is great stuff!"

I've tested it in the form of a large CRK Sebenza, and a Spyderco Native 5, and soon a ZT 550.

Rather than defend myself from your blanket statements, how about you watch my test videos then try to proclaim that "CRKs S35VN is great stuff."

Thomas, I really think it's cool that you're posting on this thread rather than shrinking from POTENTIAL criticism ... can you tell us how hard you're running the s35vn with the run of 0550s that many of us are waiting for the truck to deliver..?

No one is criticizing Thomas or Kershaw. You have to be referring to me because I'm pretty much the only one talking about the steel.

If you go back and read, I was actually sticking up for Kershaw, saying that it is more possible than not that they got it right.

Congrats on 2K posts CTS

I went back and watched your testing on the 0551 with Elmax. I am eager to see how S35VN stacks up on the same platform.

Thanks for offering up a sample Thomas.

Hahaha, I didnt mean to upset you, but to say that I have no "first hand experience" is just false. I own and have owned many CRK knives Sebenza's, Zaan's, Nyala's, Pro Soldiers etc. As far as your earlier statement: "Fact is, it doesn't matter when most of their customers don't even use the knives", I actually USE all of my knives and I'm sure other CRK owners do as well, and I highly doubt they appreciate you saying that! So get off the gas man, just because you make YouTube videos doesnt mean that you are the end all expert on knives. Everyone and their mother makes YouTube videos. C'mon we all know that story all to well, and to say that s35vn is such a terrible steel from your testing of a handful of knives just shows your lack of intelligence.

Remember, I said from my experience s35vn is great stuff, not the best, not the greatest, but its pretty decent man. Please don't misinterpret my words. I will get my 0550 in the mail any day now and I know it will be an awesome knife all around.

Why don't you stop being a TROLL on the forum. Do you think a company like CRK and Kai would use s35vn if it wasn't up to par with s30v? Im sure you couldn't shake a stick at the knowledge they have on knives.

Speaking of ELMAX, I need to give that another shake. Some things have changed since then, and I think it's only fair that we give it another shot. I will probably do both back to back.

And thanks for the congrats. :)

Excuse me, but exactly where did you say the part in red?

As to your other remarks, you are resorting to arguing ad hominem which means you have no argument.

Two random samples were tested today. One came in at 59, the other at 60 Rc.

Easy now fella's it's all good here, no need for any excess emotions.

Your absolutely right man, sorry for having an opinion. Honestly, this forum is a great place for me to spend my free time and I don't want to ruin that by arguing with you. Have a great evening.

Hopefully, one of my favourite dealers gets a few in stock sooner than later, as I think it looks like an absolute winner! Gotta be honest and say I don't care for CTS's statement about most CRK owners not using their knives, though. I stated my experience with my recently purchased S35VN Insingo and how it was different than his cut tests, but based on his opinion,I must have a dud LOL!

Flipe8, glad to hear you got a dud just like me, I was feeling lonely there for a second lol. Take it easy

You have no clue what you're talking about.

If you had good results with your S35VN CRK knife, then I will say quite the opposite. You must have either gotten a correctly heat treated one, or your expectations were in line with the steels performance. Both of those things are good.

My expectations of S35VN were that it is supposed to be on par with S30V or even better, which it is not. :)

I wish both of you would just zip it and stop crapping on this thread.

...and how about you look to the possibility that your samples are not the best examples of the steel.

Why do people think I am stating anything other than that?

I fully expect that my particular piece is not correct in some way. It seems to me like the HT is off. Same goes with my S35VN Native 5. That's why I've been saying that the steel doesn't perform well at it's current state.

But, I still hold firm that no matter what the hardness, it won't perform on par with S30V.

I am going to hold off on posting about the steel until I get the 0550 for testing.

When I get it from Thomas I will test it, then let the test do the talking. I think that's fair for everyone here and the steel also. Hopefully it turns out to prove me wrong and performs great!

Thanks again Thomas for your contribution. And to everyone else, please do not confuse my enthusiasm with malice. :)
