0560 blade completely trashed, what are my options?

I loaned my knife to someone who cut through a computer power cord while it was still plugged in and there is now a giant chip in the center of my blade. Since they are discontinued I doubt ZT can help me in any way, is there any way I can get replacement blade for it? I may have to resort to buying someone's if I see it for sale but I'd rather just buy the blade.

What does the blade look like right now? Is it impossible to repair?

Yep, I'd say it's beyond repair.

Sparks flew and everything.

Pshhh, that will buff right out.

LOL damn! Who cuts through a still plugged in power cord?!?

Call ZT customer service. They have a blade replacement program ($30). It does not apply to discontinued knives (like yours), but I'm sure they'd be happy to do it if they still have blades around.

A moron. Looks like it melted the damn steel or something.

Have you contacted them yet? I think only they can answer these questions

I shot them an email since I'm at work and can't call, I don't mind paying whatever it costs to get a new blade, really hoping they have some lying around but it does state it doesn't apply to discontinued models.

That can be sharpened out but will require a lot of steel removal to do so. I would suggest contacting one of the professional sharpeners that frequent the site here. That will need someone with the right skills and power tools to fix it.

Alternately - you can tell the "moron" that since he ruined your knife, he gets to pay to replace it, so find the same model on the secondary market and get him to buy it. Though I have found that morons rarely have the honor to pony up.

Also - you should now have a new personal rule ingrained in you - never, ever, let anyone else use your good knives.

That is certainly scarred! Maybe a full regrind could help. You may lose a little in blade height (distance from spine to edge) though. Notify ZT like others have suggested and take it from there.

You'd lose some steel but maybe one of our custom regrinders around the forum could bring it back.
I've used REK here with great results.

Beat me to it by a minute Ratman.

Yes - a custom regrind would take care of the problem.

Wait to hear back from Kai USA, and work from there.

Good luck - and sorry about your 560 - that sucks.

best

just curious, but the person you loaned it to and did that is willing to pay for the replacement blade or knife, repair, whatever you decide, right?

A REK regrind would be the route I'd take, also.
Unless ZT is able to replace the blade.
Either way, the idiot responsible needs to pay for it!

Bingo^^

Or, have the person who did this pay for a 562/566, Depending on your size preferences.

This will teach the person who did it the lesson, and make them be careful with other peoples stuff, knives or not...

They are going to pay whatever route I decide to go. I really hope ZT can help, the 560 is really the perfect knife for me and I don't want to have to buy another model with slightly different blade sizes and ergonomics.
