0560 blade completely trashed, what are my options?

I see you op really like ZT 0560/0561 (it is indeed a great knife and I like mine very much). Maybe it is time to consider buying a new one with your coworker covering partially the cost. Keep the current one (however ZT fixes it) as a beater.

Let your coworker buy you a new knife and give him the one he damaged.

At this point, yes to this. "Hey man, that knife you ruined is a discontinued model that is difficult to find, so I'll need you to pony up the $250-$300 they are going for on Ebay now for another one."

Perfect solution!

Finally called them, they gave me two options. Grind the edge up about a half inch which would give it a huge bevel and thin blade or a voucher for a new knife at the value of mine, which he quoted at $325. Seems a no brainer to take the voucher I guess, but I said I'd call back so I can see what they currently offer.

That's pretty amazing they are offering you full retail of the knife when it was damaged by user error.

Tell your buddy to buy you a new knife on eBay and he can have the voucher to pick out a knife for him on ZT's website.

As steve miller band once put it. "go on take the money and run!" seriously that's amazing they honored that. I would take that voucher and be very very thankful.

That's great. :)
You can pick form almost their entire selection of knives currently produced with that voucher.
If you want the 0804CF, you just add $25...or pick one of the cheaper ones, and get a ZT pen as well.

It's sort of like Christmas in January; you have many hours of internet shopping ahead of you.

You can grind that out. A little file work will get that out and you will never know it happened. If you have a belt sander or have a friend with one it could be done in a couple minutes. If possible use a belt sander with a variable speed and use a slower speed so it doesn't over heat the blade. I read up and see there is a solution underway but still I would consider convexing that blade.

Yes - take the vouche and pick another ZT. 0804 would be a nice one to have. Not sure if you can get a LE with the vouche (with some added $). If yes, pick a 0392.

ZT will likely not return the damaged 0561 if you take the money. Otherwise, you can have the blade reground into a recurve maybe?

I kind of like the 0452CF, not real big on the 0392. Also not big on coated blades, if the 0804 came without it I might consider it. I haven't been on their site yet to check around, but I have always liked the 0452 and the 0095BW.

That's a high valuation, you should take it. The 0561 sells used for only about $160-170 on the exchange.

Definitely check out the 452cf! My fave ZT! Amazing action, locks up exactly how you'd want it to, great in hand and sexy as hell!!

At most they are on the hook for $30 and paying for shipping along with sending the knife back reground or not. Instead you get a new high-end knife with arguably better materials. That's excellent customer service.

The Dumby friend should not be totally off the hook. Not sure he should have to pony up for a new 0560 (though if he was a stand up guy he would anyway) since you are getting a replacement. He should have to do something though.....
