0560 blade completely trashed, what are my options?

They are going to pay whatever route I decide to go. I really hope ZT can help, the 560 is really the perfect knife for me and I don't want to have to buy another model with slightly different blade sizes and ergonomics.

that's good to hear. nice when folks right a wrong.

good luck hope you can get the blade from zt.

I'd be willing to bet that the ht is ruined in that spot from the arc.

I did something similar with a Rockstead but it was on low voltage thermostat wiring. Luckily, most of the damage was on the DLC coating and not the edge itself. I do have a pair of Kleins that look like your knife though:D

Kleins. The right tool for the job.

Yeah that's usually several thousand degrees in a few milliseconds. Enough to melt the steel as you see in the pic. That's also copper from the wires melted onto the blade. I also have a pair of kleins with involuntary stripping holes because of a special idiot I was working with. This was 120 volts, you should see the results of 277/480 volt arc, woo boy.

You wanna talk about scary? Imagine seeing a faulty Comed line arc across to a crane boom. I'll never forget what thousands of volts shooting out of outriggers looks like. It was like lightning bolts 10' in front of me:eek:

Yep, I'd say it's beyond repair.

Sparks flew and everything.

WOW!
I guess contact ZT like everyone else said.
Or maybe consider turn it into a partial serrated edge?

Done that a few times also Tyler!!! Usually when my helper tells me the power is off.........NOT!!
The HT issue is a great observation. That arc got hot enough to incinerate that steel.
Wonder if it can be re ground or if the HT is ruined???

My daughter did it with a paring knife. I was more worried about her than I cared about the knife. But a neighbor of mine worked for the local power company. He was up working on a line -- after he locked out the power -- and his boss came along and cut the lock off to turn the power back on.

He survived, but the scar across his throat is scary as hell.

Ouch. I guess that's why the bosses should stay off the line.

I have a ZT 560 and their warranty is invalid now because ZT discontinued the model. BS if you ask me, but at least you can get the guy who ruined it to pay if ZT is willing to get you a new blade. Otherwise a regrind could probably fix it but you'd just lose a little beef off the blade.

Another option would be to pick up a 560 from the exchange and print out a screen shot of the ad and your PayPal info so he sees what you paid and have him reimburse you.

The warranty isn't invalid. The $30 blade replacement doesn't apply to discontinued and LE models - because they don't have surplus parts for these.

Weren't there some guys on here that deal with Kershaw, like KershawGuy or maybe a few others that usually had some old stock or deals?
