0560 blade completely trashed, what are my options?

It will not be sterile. I sent mine in and it was just like new..even had the original serial number. They stopped doing sterile blades.

Here's mine during happier times haha.

Given Kai's issues with overheating the Elmax blades in the ZT 56x models, if you're competent with good equipment, maybe you could have them install the replacement blade unsharpened and you could cut your own secondary bevel. Come to think of it, wouldn't it be great if we could order any production knives with a sharpened or unsharpened blade. Preferably with a price break on the unsharpened models! :D :D :D

Where is your proof of this? for one you are just spreading rumors that were created by a scam artists for $. PLEASE dont spread this rumor about anymore, especially without proof.

It was a real thing but a long time ago. Speaking about it now as if it is still going on is misinformation though.

Congrats on Kai taking care of it. $30 for a new blade is a helluva fair deal. Can't complain about that!

Mo2.....

Creating rumors that were created by scam artists for money ??? Lol, WTF??? AND everyone thought Bernie Madoff had a helluva scam! Please explain this "scam" and how it works. I can't wait to hear..... I was speaking a little tongue and cheek but since you need to argue and accuse, it is not a rumor. It was a long time ago and KAI long corrected the issue but if you are going to take everything so seriously and defend them like your only child you should do some research into the subject. In the meantime, again, please explain how this is a profitable scam......

Tongue and cheek often doesn't come through in a forum post. It looked like you were saying there was a problem still.

FedEx I went to won't ship weapons, told me to go to the one in the next city. Awesome

I always use the PO. They don't ask what's in the box, they just ask if there's anything that can't be in there.
I just say camping or sporting goods when using UPS. They ask what's inside.
Never used FedEx.

Perhaps there was an issue with some Elmax blades early in the 56X's but that was corrected a long time ago. And again, it was NOT a rampant issue as some would have you believe.

Some had issues but most did not, or at least never reported any issues.

What about a USPS flat rate box? Take the box to your car pack it all up and no questions asked :)

Edit: Just saw Palonej already got the rec!

I had the old model ZT 0551 (generation one) in Elmax; no problems at all.
My dad has one of them now...no problems.
My brother has the other one I had, and it's his main work knife.
Not a single problem with it ever, and he ends up using it harder than most folks supposedly were when they reported issues.

It was either a case of people abusing the knives more than they admitted then reporting an issue, or an exceedingly rare quality issue.
Given the way the internet goes, I tend to think it was people doing really stupid stuff with their knife, then saying it happened during regular to hard use (because they were embarrassed by the stupid crap they did to wreck their knife).

again where is this proof? sofar it was just rumors of it on the forums and no one actually had any real issues as far as posts on forums. it was one guy on youtube who said there was an issue and he did it for them to sell him there knives for CHEAP. turns out no one actually had defective blades. i havent found one post of defective blades. the rumor just stuck, and people keep spreading it.

Yup. USPS small flat rate box with insurance or signature confirmation should be about $10.

Good to hear that ZT's warranty services can still swap out the blade for you. Given its popularity, I guess it's not entirely surprising they still have some parts in stock to service it, even if it has been discontinued. The 0560 really is a great knife. Here's my 0560CBCF, which also put a superconductor LBS on.

As for the pocket clip & screws, they may have responded that way because that style of deep carry clip was also discontinued. However, if you don't mind not having a deep carry clip, the one from the 0450 fits it just fine.

I have one of the relatively early 0560's (serial number in the 1100's) and have never had any heat treat issues with it (nor any of my other Elmax ZT's, or even my Speedform II, which pre-dates those). I think stabman hit it on the mark though - the problems likely were either self-caused or a rare QC miss.

FedEx I went to won't ship weapons, told me to go to the one in the next city. Awesome

Most places won't if you tell/show them it's a knife you are shipping. I just bring in the knife prepackaged and if they ask what I'm shipping I tell them it's a tool.

It's not illegal to ship a knife, but it's up to FedEx to decide what is or isn't a weapon. They could refuse shipping a baseball bat if they wanted.

UPS took it with no questions asked, I said it was a tool and insured information $200. 12 bucks.
