0560 blade completely trashed, what are my options?

That's a deep gouge in the blade, it will have to be one hell of a re grind to get rid of it. You might lose a lot of blade width and it may look funny after it's done.
I'd tell the moron who used it without checking to see if the power was unplugged, he just bought himself a knife.
I'm sure if you'd post in the WTB forum, you can pick up a 560 for a reasonable price.
I'm still looking at the pics, the gouge is beyond the shoulder of the edge.....Wow

Good to hear that ZT's warranty services can still swap out the blade for you. Given its popularity, I guess it's not entirely surprising they still have some parts in stock to service it, even if it has been discontinued. The 0560 really is a great knife. Here's my 0560CBCF, which also put a superconductor LBS on.

As for the pocket clip & screws, they may have responded that way because that style of deep carry clip was also discontinued. However, if you don't mind not having a deep carry clip, the one from the 0450 fits it just fine.

I have one of the relatively early 0560's (serial number in the 1100's) and have never had any heat treat issues with it (nor any of my other Elmax ZT's, or even my Speedform II, which pre-dates those). I think stabman hit it on the mark though - the problems likely were either self-caused or a rare QC miss.

I'd rather have the pocket clip you have on yours than the original deep clip.

Please tell us more about the superconductor lock bar stabilizer. What alloy is it?

When they say superconductor they're usually talking about the remains of the failed hadron collider outside of Dallas (superconducting super collider). Since they abandoned the effort they started selling all of the superconductor material. Hopefully that can start you on your search. There are multiple classifications of superconductors and maybe you can find which specific material they used.

Some medical equipment also have superconductor materials and when they dispose of those things some people rip out that material so that's possible as well.

I too have a superconductor lbs on my cbcf 0560 like flarp. Rival of Rivalknives was the maker of these particular ones and he did a fantastic job. Not sure if he offers these anymore or not as we got these a year ago or so.

Good to hear that they are taking care of you. Good peeps there at KAI!

MagLev trains in Japan, Germany and US experimental facilites also ride on superconductor magnets
And all particle accelerators have them, at least the hadron colliders

The pieces came out of an old MRI machine, we never knew anything about the composition except that it was really awesome looking.

That really does look cool. When I get mine back I'm going to have to start looking into the little bits that can be changed out for some more uniqueness, I like how these look. Just the simple stuff like spacers and lockbar stabilizers and such.

Knife is set to reach ZT on 12/23, just tracked it.

Great pic mqqn!!
Joe

Thanks Joe! I guess I should have cleaned it up before snapping that one though.....

Here's mine during happier times haha.

Great shot - and my 23 is the piece I have done the most training with (gen 2...)

The little things make it your own - I did the blue ti hardware on mine and that really made the knife stand out -

Thanks. The G23 was my first gun and I learned to shoot on it. Everyone talks about how snappy .40s are but if I can learn on one and have no issues with followup shots it can take be that bad.

Where did you get your aftermarket 560 stuff? Is there a site that has everything or did you mix and match?

I got everything from a guy on ebay that sells hardware from Australia -

I got mine from ebay as well. Can't remember the name of the seller but he is a member here.

Exactly what I was thinking...never heard of a speedform 2 having an issue or a 0551 either.

I loaned my knife to someone who cut through a computer power cord while it was still plugged in and there is now a giant chip in the center of my blade. Since they are discontinued I doubt ZT can help me in any way, is there any way I can get replacement blade for it? I may have to resort to buying someone's if I see it for sale but I'd rather just buy the blade.

Make them buy a new one, or like new one on the 2ndary market

Yes. That was him. Also got some for an 801 but never installed them before I sold the knife (twice!).

He did good work. I bought a few little ZT things from him (backspacers and whatnot), but haven't seen him here in ages.

Ugh. Just got a call from ZT and they told me they don't have any blades now. I sent it in the day after I got the email saying they did have some. She said they could try to repair it but it wouldn't be pretty, or they had some other options. I have to call them back. Now I'm back to being bummed.

EDIT: Just checked, the woman who called me was the one who said they had blades available.

Hopefully, one of the other options will good for you.
Let us know what they are offering you.
