0770 CF production question

. Mentioned it here many times. The majority prefer SpeedSafe. It outsells manuals by a wide margin. Sales are important.

Cars with automatic transmissions outsell those manual.
Yet manual is better....

just sayin....

I would guess it is for the same reason that knives can't have any lateral play, and grind lines must be perfectly even. People not "in the know" think it makes a difference, when in reality a properly made manual and learning to use the knife gives the same reliable opening (arguably more reliable because there isn't a torsion bar to lose tension).

Oh well. So long as Kershaw keeps making good knives I will buy their products, no matter how much I disagree with choices on certain models.

Well that's why we put in a detent set-up in these automatics (566, 770's)...It allows you to go manual should that be how you want to drive.

No burning out you clutch now...:)

KAI have a lot more data than you do about knife sales. At the end of the day it's a business that needs to pay salaries, so yes they have to prioritize sales. KAI by far are the only knife production company that appeal to a wide knife demographic.

We forumers make up for a very small percentage of the knife population, and KAI obviously will not listen to switching to manual just because you or most of us here want it. Besides, they have tons of models out there with a manual opening to cater to your needs.

A little respect wouldn't hurt when directing your posts to KAI, Jimmer or even Thomas for that matter.

Not a personal attack, but politeness/respect seems to be a long lost aspect here on BF.

I just wish the damn 770 was made to be made manual, like a deeper detent but less lock bar pressure. Oh and bigger washers. Or just make the damned thing NOT speedsafe.

The 770 would be a great design as a manual flipper. Kind of like a classy 350. Kershaw, stop ruining great designs by making them assisted!

That's why I'm interested in the Diskin strobe.
If the 770 wasn't assisted I bought one as soon as they became available.

First thing I do with Speedsafe knives with detent hole is take out the torsion bar then proceed to enjoy the knife. I can open it just as fast, slower and can close it without fighting the torsion bar too.

If customs don't confiscate the knife before it gets to you.

If the Dutch website says that the 0770CF is actually in stock and available for sale in 6 days, please let us know.

Just one for the record, I am one of those that likes the speedsafe. I think ya'll are spot on with your design choices. :)

And this right here... is why I love KAI (and why I'll keep buying knives from you guys). I never get angry or upset when a knife comes out but doesn't have a feature I want - because there are so many knives on the market right now with companies putting out tons of new variations/innovative-designs/collaborations all driven by customer feedback (way more than just about any other industry out there).

This truly is the golden-age of the pocket knife - we enjoy so much variety, awesome customer service, and bleeding-edge technology that I honestly think many knife enthusiasts become blinded to the forest by the trees.

I'm a long-time ZT fan who doesn't own a single ZT knife for the simple reason that, up to now, they haven't produced a product that fits my needs. Don't get me wrong. I love tactical pocket bricks as much as the next guy. In fact, handling some of them is what made me fall in love with ZT in the first place. But they're just too big and bulky for me to EDC. Now comes the 0770CF and I've finally got a shot at being able to purchase and carry a ZT knife that works for me. So while I agree with your statement, EZB, there's only one tree I'm concentrating on right now. And I'll take it any way ZT dishes it up. It may be the only opportunity I get to own and carry a knife from ZT . . . a company whose product quality and workmanship I admire.

If you switch "doesn't own a single" to owns a few, but really only carries the 0801, and then only when I'm wearing jeans, I'm in the same place as bld522. I've been waiting on the 0770CF with fervent hopes it will be the ZT that I can actually devote some pocket time to . . .

I have carried my 801 as an EDC. Because I check the pocket size of all of my pants and shorts, it fits just fine. I try to keep my pockets all big enough to almost fix an Xbox game case in.

The 801 doesn't take up any more pocket space than my Endura or Domino, though.

By Domino, do you mean the gigantic folding spatula that has a tiny sharp edge made by Spyderco? I have one of those, but don't carry it. That goofy-shaped thing takes up too much pocket for what it provides (I really should take that BNIB, pristine Domino and throw it on the Exchange, now that I think about it). The Southard feels half the size of the Spyderspork Domino, and the Southard has the better part of an inch more sharpened steel . . .

Anyway, different strokes for different folks. I often have to wear dress pants for work, and most ZTs are just too heavy and too bulky. In my experience, about four ounces is the upper bound for weight with comfortable dress pants carry, and preferably on the thin side. With any luck, the 0770CF will find space in my regular rotation of "any of these will work" every day knives (Southard, Southard, Southard, Southard, WH E10, Mcusta Tactility).

I don't find the 801 to be too heavy for EDC and I do seem to appreciate FFG blades.I wonder how much my cell phone weighs?I think the 0770CF will be a fine knife for some folks. The 801 fits my needs and I have used it in the field and EDC without even having a thought about how much it weighs.

I'm dying to get my grubby mitts on one of these. It figures that the first batch will probably come out when I have no room in the budget for knives. :(

Dang - after reading Mr. Blonde's Amsterdam Spyderco thread, and waiting on my BM 940-1, this 0770cf needs to hurry up and come out. Being in the golden age of pocket knives means having a lot less money than I planned on having this year (and I picked this year to start getting more into fixed-blades as well - crap).

Still, it's a great problem to have.

Hopefully the 1st small batch will be out very soon.

I'd get my hopes up, but I'm from Missouri. And unless there are enough coming to fill all the backorders, I probably won't get mine anyway as I was late in placing my preorder.

C'est la vie.
