0780 .... It came!

now the 0780's are discontinued. I'll get a final production total. There wasn't many.

What???

Why that? Why now, before it ist available in Europe?

I have been waiting for the 0780 since it was anounced, that was more than two years! And now it will maybe not possible to get one.......

How long was it actually in production? I thought it had only recently started hitting the streets here in the States?

This post is why I thought they had just recently hit the streets. So what I'm now hearing is the 780 has been discontinued about 20 days after the post stating they should be on the streets soon. Am I the only one who finds that odd? OR have I totally missed something?!

This is a great design. Its my first ZT. I have plenty of Kershaws and carry a Para 2. I was hoping to make this my EDC but now I may not use it. Its a very nice design. I love the blade.

...been my EDC for a few days now...kicked the pm2 out of my pocket.

This just caused me to buy one on eBay (only place I could find one). I had no idea it was around the size of the Skyline or I would have bought one sooner.

Very excited, but unexpected to have to fork over the money on something that went out of production so soon (not that I'm complaining about an excuse to buy another knife :D )

I like my Para but was thinking this may take the place of it. I will probably use it. I have not got mine yet. Waiting for it to ship.

I wish there were less limited production knives(not just zt but all makers) because i would probably have alot more knives. I dont have the time or patience to keep checking threads and release dates and making sure i get pre orders in. I just want to see a knife, pay for it, and start using it. I could care less how collectable a knife is because i will never buy one that i will not use. I really want a 780 but unless one is readily available for purchase ill probably never have one.

From Mike: "From what I know, these were dropped due to production time being re-allocated and prioritized."

Well I guess with the death of one comes the birth of something new. Hopefully we will see the 0888 and others in the near future.

I think ZT is moving up market and only produced one run of each of the 07xx knives to fulfill preorders and such.

Well, I had thought about buying one of these myself. It is a neat design, a good size. BUT, I ran across a good deal on a 301, so I'm tapped out until next month. And the one place that I had seen these in stock no longer has them anyway. So, sux to be me. ;) Guess I might have to take a close look at a Skyline, as close as this appeared to be to that. OR, here's a thought... just be satisfied with the awesome KAI products that I have already...

Anybody from Kershaw !
What's happen ? Pls, explain. I was waiting for almost 2 years for 0780. And now what ??
I don't need weird 400, 700 and 750, heavy and/or big 200, 300 and even 550/560.
Give me smth normal - light and tough small-middle size folder for around 100 bucks like 0780. And I'll be happy.
I beg you !

I have a skyline..feels like a toy compared to the 0780

I had been wanting to get a second ZT to keep my ZT0350ST company, and I had been thinking of waiting until I could afford to get one of the Hinderer collaborations, but as soon as I read this thread, I was on a mission to find an 0780. After an hour or so of web searching, I pulled the trigger on one (for a really reasonable price, too); hope they are actually in stock! Really looking forward to getting it!

Just got mine today. It was odd, I had an appointment that I had to be at right around the time the mail comes and for some strange reason, the mail came early and I got it right before I left.

First thing I did was to change it to tip-up and I found that the pocket-clip holes in the scale didn't quite line up with the liners, so I couldn't get the screws in. I loosened the scales a bit and the pocket-clip screws went in with ease but the blade wants to lean to the left-side (non-lock) scale when closed. I tried the tighten-pivot/loosen-scales/push-blade-over/tighten-scales trick and it seems to be working (it's not perfectly centered, but it's very close and with the pivot/washers still breaking in, I'm sure I'll be able to tighten the pivot a hair and get it back to center in about another week of opening/closing).

Also, I noticed that it is a bit stiff - pretty much like my 0551 was, so I'm flipping it opened and closed as often as I can based on how the 0551 turned into instant butter at about 2-weeks of opening/closing (this 0780 is already starting to smooth-up).

I'll be honest, this thing could have had actual severe problems and I'd still either carry it or send it in (and I almost never send a knife back to the manufacturer). It is truly that awesome. It's a little heavier than I was expecting (which is a good thing for me - I like to feel my pocket-knives in the pocket, but I don't want 8oz of knife pulling my pants down).

Love the pocket-clip. Love the flipper action (now that it is loosening up). And I absolutely love the slanted thumb-studs. If you have a Zing, you know how awesome these are.

I sort of wish there was jimping further back on the spine, and the serrations/jimping on the butt of the knife have caught on the seam of the inside of my pocket when carrying in the pocket instead of using the clip, but in the reverse-grip the serrations/jimping on the butt of the knife are perfect in catching the thumb.

This thing will definitely give some of my Para-2s a run for their money. I wish ZT would make more knives in this size (not that I have anything against their larger knives, but pocket-sized tanks are just as cool).

At first I had reservations about buying one (it delayed the purchase of my Spyderco Techno) but I'm very happy I got one before they were gone. Pick one up now if you are thinking about it - you will not be disappointed.

I'll add that this thing is screaming for a satin / stonewashed finish on all the metal parts (I might take on an attempt to strip it down and stone-wash if I get time in the future).
