119 users?

I read that and asked them about it because the 102 says it is leather. They told me it was a misprint and that it was real leather. But I will take a bikers word ,even without eagle scout card over a sales person .

Well...I always believe everything I read on the internet  ;)
Maybe it's genuine Corinthian "pleather"?
The bum for me was/is the logo.

I EDC a 120 Pro-Line that is tattooed. Got used to that, but the Bean gig just don't sit right with me. Guess I'm just an ass when it comes to "designer" labels...like the Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer, or the Ford Harley pick-up :barf:

goose
thanks for the pic and straightening me out on those numbers :o
i had seen those before but they dont really interest me but when you mention bottle opener lol
i had suggested a nice solid brass letter opener for the bcci and a brass bottle opener sounds like a good companion piece
LOL. Yeah BM...it really does have a bottle opener gig on it.
Ya can't see it in the previous pic due to how I had posed for deployment.
But in this pic you can see it. I turned the pic upsidedown if ya consider the white logo...this so you can get a better idea of the form/fit/function of the bottle opener.

I agree on the logo thing also but I do like LL beans warrenty. I bought a pair of boots from them a year ago (not for the label) they started leaking the other day while I had the kids out hiking in the mud. I called them and they sent a new pair out that I should have this weekend. I geuss I really dont what it says on my gear as long as it doesnt let me down in the field.

The only thing I like from LL Bean is their rubber foot-leather upper "Bean Boots". Wonderful to wear and nearly as classy as a 110.

Not to hijack a thread, but I find those Whittaker designs like Approach and Revolution to be an ergonomic nightmare. I can't find a way to hold them that is comfortable.

Well Goose, I took your advice. Not only did I buy the 119 and the 105, but I also threw the 102 in there also. Think I will keep using the Vanguard and just keep these on display.

Here they are.The 102 looks a little lighter than the 119 and 105.

I used a pair of 119's one time, a traditional black phenolic plastic grip one and one with a Kraton grip (one of the first to use that material, I believe) to field dress, quarter and skin a moose a while back. Had to backpack the quarters and rib sections out about 200 yards across a creek (where I learned to do a push-up with a quarter of moose on my Trapper Nelson pack-frame) and over various crotch-high deadfalls. The knives held up better than I did; I believe I had to touch them up once during the entire process. That meets my personal criteria for what a knife should do.

Ya think? ;)
Jelly...Of those knives in the pic, which do you prefer. I would like to read your review. 100 words or less, no double spacing, black ink, and due at the start of class Friday.

...phenolic plastic grip one and one with a Kraton grip ...

That's why you need a Prospect member of your "Hunting Club".
Alberta Ed, or anyone, got a pic of the Kraton next to the phenolic grips?
Wondering what "Kraton" is. Sounds like that stuff Superman can't handle.

...Hey goose...don't have a phenolic to compare it to but here's a "Kraton" 619...

( click the thumbnail twice )

Doc D...
OK, that is TFF. I have that knife but always just called it "rubber".

D, you don't have a 119?

...LOL...I don't even have that 619 Marv...I found that pic in the "cyber- library"...I'm still holding out gooser...Still the staunch "folder guy"...I think the last fixed blade I had was a 105 I tried to coax through a bolt...LMBO... :p :p

Jelly??? I don't get it Goose. Maybe I missed read it. You want a review from me or Alberta Ed??

I didn't read this whole thread and only know what's available in the catalog so maybe I missed something. But where did you get the 105 with cocobola?

They are suppose to be rosewood from Bass Pro. But the 102 does look more like cocobola. The 119 and 105 definately look rosewood, the match the rosewood vanguard ag.

"Jelly"...if you don't get it, I can't help ya KY. I've been kicked outta better bars than this one.

As for the review...you or Ed, both would be cool.
I have my one favorite. But, that's just me...I also thought I was gonna kill communists for a living...just goes to show ya...

Goshen...
The 102 is coco. The 105 is Rose.

Duhhhhhhhhhhh. I need sleep. I think i get it. Maybe I should of chose a better screen name. Review. 119 too big, 102 too small, 105 and Vanguard (never can remember if its a 191 or 192[duhhhhh] ) just about right. Starting to sound like goldielocks and the three bears. Ideally I'd like to take the 105 handle and put it on the vanguard blade. But I geuss thats why folks have custom knives made, too fill their every little wish. Actually the Vangaurd is currently a user and the 105 I'm considering just to see how it does. Blade just a little skinny.

My gut hook was always the first two fingers on my left hand. I never split the pelvis with a knife, I just cut around the area and go about my business. I like the 119, but I used a SAK Soldier to skin my last deer.
