120th Anniversary BK98 Becker Tuko

It looks like a very nice Knife and fare enough if you need or want a new blade for the Kitchen

Haha it feels odd to say I want a kitchen blade over a outdoor belt knife or chopper. However, I'm stuck in a tiny city appartment and the only blades I get to use everyday are my kitchen knives.

...only 48 left BTW

The price is more then fair IMHO.

Regular tweener price with 1095 $80ish.

Upgraded scales $40

Upgraded sheath $50

Plus the time and chemicals for stripping the black coating off and putting your own patina on.

With this we get all the upgrades included. On top of that a super premium steel. s35vn

Ethan has made some of the best kitchen knives I've ever used. So this is a no-brainer.

The scales don't look right because they are bone linen micarta, not the regular we are use to. Now if someone wants to school me on the differences between the regular and the bone linen, please do so.

I do not think the price unreasonable at all. Especially considering everything you laid out in your post. I think it is fantastic to see a Becker done in premium steel and materials.

My only reluctance comes from knowing how my wife treats our kitchen knives. We have had the same set since before we got married and it's been 15(?) years. You would be horrified to see how many things she has pried, poked, and prodded with those things. Even though she has certainly listened to me when I have attempted to provide guidance, the knives themselves are in pretty sorry shape overall.

Hence wanting to get a new set, with an accompanying list of rather stringent rules...

I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering. Why the hole in the tip of the blade?
To hang. or weight balancing/reducing? Style?

Damn Pad, I must be married to your wife’s sister lol. If I had a nickel for all the times I’ve caught her using a knife as a screwdriver....well, I could afford this knife!

I like this design, and it’s good to see a premium steel being used (I think everybody’s been wishing for something like this), but right now it’s too rich for my blood. I do hope this gets sold out fast; hopefully this will give KA-BAR some incentive to give us a limited-run on some of their other offerings using premium steel.

$200 is a good deal for the knife but I just don't need it at the moment, and since I'm no collector I'll let those who want one get them instead.

I love the idea of the knife, though, I hope the success of this one promotes a run of new Becker-handled designs.

New knife on its way. I picked up an extra shift with bonus last week, I guess I know where that extra $$ is going now.

A Becker kitchen knife? I want to be in...but not at that price, and not with that sheath. (I don't really need a short santuko, anyway. Bring on the Becker paring knife or Becker chef knife)
I’d love to see a custom bk15 next
With a thinned down blade like this one, I'd certainly consider it

I want to want it, but i dunno... it just falls short for me. I can't quite put my finger on it.

I really hope Ka-Bar decides to do a “bare bones” model of this knife. Don’t get me wrong, the micarta and premium steel really are nice, but there’s no way I can drop 2 bills on this thing.
Give me 1095 and stock scales with normal pricing and I’d buy one.
Just kinda bummed that the last 3 Becker models have come at higher price tags and in limited quantities...

Cool knife Ethan and Ka-Bar! I dig it! You guys did good on this one.
I’d just like to see a couple knives added to the normal affordable lineup.

They could put it out in 1095, but I'd have doubts. I feel like no matter what most knife manufacturers won't put out a real cooking/kitchen blade in carbon steel. You just can't trust the masses of people to take care of carbon steel.

Thanks for helping me rationalize my purchase, I was having second thoughts as soon as i placed the order. But how can you go wrong, with such a limited production and the premium steel? My Wife loves the Series 1 Becker Cooking knife set I gave her for Christmas. I know this knife will get used a lot.

A lot of people have been asking for a premium steel . No surprise it would cost . I'am just wondering does anyone know if S35VN would even make a good hard use knife, I sure don't have any idea? Hey kj, Thanks! I couldn't get the thought of an Ethan designed kitchen knife out of my head and couldn't let it go . I'm now a little poorer

It also looks like kabar is using stainless hardware. Another cost saving upgrade haha :D

I've been praying for a series 2, but maybe the bk98 is the answer.

And where the hell did 98 come from?

Word on the street about s35vn is yes great for hard use. I can't confirm that. The only experience I've had with it is the kabar snody snake chamer. I haven't used it hard but it never gets dull.

There are certain manufacturers that make some 'tough' knives such as Hinderer, ZT, and the production Fiddlebacks that use S35vn as their steel of choice for their models.
