120th Anniversary BK98 Becker Tuko

They could put it out in 1095, but I'd have doubts. I feel like no matter what most knife manufacturers won't put out a real cooking/kitchen blade in carbon steel. You just can't trust the masses of people to take care of carbon steel.
Carbon Steel is all that was used back in the day . I have a couple of old Forgecraft carbon steel blades I'am sure they never had any special care my Grand parents had. Still just fine

It also looks like kabar is using stainless hardware. Another cost saving upgrade haha :D

I've been praying for a series 2, but maybe the bk98 is the answer.

And where the hell did 98 come from?

Word on the street about s35vn is yes great for hard use. I can't confirm that. The only experience I've had with it is the kabar snody snake chamer. I haven't used it hard but it never gets dull.
98 is quite a jump up :D
There are certain manufacturers that make some 'tough' knives such as Hinderer, ZT, and the production Fiddlebacks that use S35vn as their steel of choice for their models.
Good to know

It's what we've always wanted:
Fancy steel, new and useful blade shape, all the upgrades included, limited run.
I already have a santuko in the kitchen, which is dandy, but I've liked not loved the small santuko's I've tried and wound up giving 2 away.
Have been impressed with slicey-ness and edge holding of S35VN. Would have asked for another notch or two up the hardness scale for kitchen duties, but it's a Becker so a little extra toughness won't be unappreciated.
If I didn't have a trio of trailing-points expressly for the purpose, this could be awesome for the Camp Kitchen.
I think I could justify it to myself, but I've been looking for a super-steel Nakiri for the kitchen and trying not to drop 2 bills on THAT.
So, I think I'm gonna pass.

If I find I can't live without it later, maybe I'll seek someone looking to trade for a NIB 15...

Ethan knows a thing or two about food prep and is certainly no stranger to knife design. Though I am saddened by what this knife will do to my BK-15 and BK-5 sessions, I do look forward to chopping, dicing and mincing with this bad boy. 1095 would have been fine with me - D2 better but S35VN rings the bell!

"Santoku" means "three virtues" ... good thing the price isn't $333!

I tried to place an on line order and give KaBar $200, before they figure out the three virtues thing, but, as per usual, my CC and KaBar's website do not play well together. Hopefully I will get a call in the morning to confirm things and get this cool knife enroute to me.

Probably most exciting of all is the State and Union Custom Shop and that a Becker knife was first.

Good times ahead ... good times!

tjswarbrick is right. Kabar delivered what we've been asking for. I feel like everyone has been asking for a stainless bk15. Everyone who has a 15 says how great of a kitchen blade it is. Well I don't think kabar is going to ever bring the bk15 back. It only got popular because it was so cheap everyone finally bought one. It didn't sell well before it won't now. However it seems kabar has been listening to us the whole time. They just gave us exactly what we've been asking for. A nice stainless knife good for kitchen work. Frankly there are not that many active beckerheads, probably less than 100. I'm sure we only account for a very small percent of kabar's earnings. Seems to me kabar and Ethan just made a special run for us. 120 made 32 remaining. These might just be gone by the end of the day.

Yes just got shipping notice!

By the way if anyone had a new bk15 please sell it to me I’ll pay dearly. I gave mine away in a drunken moment of wanting to share my Fondness of Becker’s with my brother in law.

Nah, ya don't want D2 on a kitchen knife. Way too coarse-grained/large-carbided for the edge angles you want on a thin kitchen bllade. S35VN or a low-carbide razor steel are probably the best options for this, and S35VN seems to be the stainless that Kabar works with. The PM process makes the grain finer than the non-PM varieties of stainless.

I would love to have one of these, but timing is not good for the pocketbook.
3 weeks ago I shelled out $190 for a spare tire. (because SWMBO's new car came without one and the slime pump does you no good when you slice through a belt with a piece of flint gravel...)
yesterday I spent $168 on dog #1 at the vet getting his annual shots & HW meds, tomorrow I get to repeat the experience with dog #2.

I ordered mine as soon as I got the email. I have to admit I hesitated for a minute but I love the design and I know it will be with me for the rest of my life so.... ChaChing!!!

love it. we'll see how the experiment goes.

people asked for basically ... this ... KaBar delivered. 170 sold. good deal.

what's funny are the people complain on the nets that it's too expensive. lol.
