2007 Blade Show Cutting Competition- Why no Busse?

Ok Porkshooter, Take a walk and let me handle this troll...

I don't need anymore of your yellow chiclets :thumbdn:

I never claimed to be able to 'pushcut a phonebook in half'. HE DID.
I don't need to back up a statement I never made!!!!

Speaking of 'walk the talk', why doesn't Busse do that in a CUTTING COMPETITION?
That was my original thread.

Case closed.

Go cut something.

 Ok whatever. Jerry has an open challenge to other knife manufacturers, and maybe some will accept someday... Here's a post from him before Christmas.

Okay. . . Here's what I've got so far. . . We, at Busse Combat, cut over 2,700 pieces of 1" hemp rope at the 1999 BLADE Show with a 2" wide section of the 1/4” thick blade and over 3,100 pieces at a show in Nashville and then bent that same knife over 70 degrees without breaking . . . We ran out of rope both times. . . The knives still easily shaved paper after all of these cuts. . . We have invited the entire industry to duplicate our tests. . . None have, because none can. . . I repeat . . . “None have, because none can!” . . . Period! . . . It's really rather simple. . . Don't believe me? Call any other manufacturer out there and ask them to duplicate our tests in a "LIVE" demo at this year's BLADE Show with a knife of similar dimensions. . . Then come on back and hang out with the guys who have actually done it and not theorized about it. . . Theories are cool. . . but then so is the Tooth Fairy. . . We are more interested in proven performance than theories. . .

Here are more random thoughts:

[ 1 ] There are far too many factors in sharpening a knife to ever get equal sharpness amongst different steels. . . ie; feathers break off easily on D-2 and 420HC giving the impression that they take a better edge. . . Feathers are very difficult to break off on INFI because they carry the same toughness as the rest of the blade. Thus an INFI blade may not feel as sharp initially and will actually get sharper as you continue to cut because you are wearing the feather down . . . blah. . blah. . .blah. . .

[ 2 ] I get tired of feeling like we are supposed to apologize for INFI kickin' the crap out of every other steel out there. . . . . Here I am kids, more than 8 years after our first "LIVE" demonstration, waiting for ANY other manufacturer to simply shut up, step up, and duplicate our tests. . . If you can beat our numbers I'll be glad to bring more rope and raise the bar so high that your nose will bleed just looking up at it. . .

[ 3 ] Listening to someone theorize about a knife steel's performance based upon the analysis of the steel, is as ridiculous as a food critic writing a review about a cake that he has never tasted, based on the ingredients!!! I don't care what you put in that cake, if you don't know how to bake it, it's gonna be pretty darned bad! :D

[ 4 ] Is this a blog?. . If so, am I blogging?. . . What does that mean????

[ 5 ] Merry Ho Ho. . .

[ 6 ] God Bless Our Troops who put it on the line every day. . .

[ 7 ] Just because one or two guys don't like our knives or don't see the performance advantage of our steel doesnt really change the facts which have been proven in so many "LIVE" tests. :)

[ 8 ] I need more scotch. .

[ 9 ] There are lots of great knives out there. . . But if I thought for one second that there was something better than what we are making . . . I would change what we are doing in a heart beat!!!!

Let's Drink!!!

Jerry :D

...So there ya go.

BTW... it's pretty obvious to me that you wish to stir up harsh reactions. This is based on both threads that I've found where you have decided to be negative towards Busse, and those of us who prefer to use Busse knives. If you think that you are being slick by negatively posting to, or starting threads like this, fine, but it's no secret to the rest of us that you have trollish tendencies and an agenda in regards to Busse and Busse knife users.

Have a knife day.

I saw Jaxx put 27 Busse's in one box then push cut his credit card through a Battle Mistress once

I was simply asking why Jerry's company doesn't enter these contests.
Why don't they?

Because INFI is actually made of plastic and is only really to be used for decorating purposes. Also because all Busse owners are lying, Kool-Aid drinking nut jobs. If that will make you happy and encourage you to move on or into some type of informative, intelligent discussion than I'll sign off on it.

Let me see if my theory hold water or leaks like paper sack, it goes like this.

Busse does not contend to have the knives that are best suited for cutting water bottles or bobbing for ping pong balls, Busse contends that INFI is superior in edge retention, and that it will bend farther than other steels without taking a set. The events in a cutting contest have more to do with blade shape, geometry and user skill, than the heat treat and chemistry of the steel used. I imagine that I could take a butter knife from my kitchen, put a wicked sharp edge on it and it would cut a water bottle or bob for ping pong balls(not at competition levels, for sure) but the edge would be shot from a single use and I bet it wouldn't take that good of an edge in the first place. So, if you want to do circus acts with INFI and see how good it performs don't expect to get any sponsorship patches from Busse.

The cornerstone of the Busse challenge is that the knives have to be ground to the same shape thickness, and geometry. I don't recall word for word, but I know that the point is to reduce the variables to one, edge retention.

I am all but positive that the cinder block stunt is a Swamp Rat specialty, which uses a different steel, designed to give different characteristics than INFI.

Thanks for your time.

wow, this thread is hotter than two swamprats porkin in a wool sock, i may enter one of these contest when i'm sober

What other manufacturers participate in the cutting competition?

One morfe haystack comin' up...Care to join Skunk? OH! Got your email today by the way, can't wait for the fatty warden. Thanks man!

I will post a pic as soon as you post a pic of you push cutting a phonebook in half.

One of the qualities of Busse's is that they can be made really sharp, pretty easily. You might even give up your rock or crowbar if you try one.

These are both thin edged Busse's that have withstood extensive and intense chopping in hardwoods clearing shooting lanes, with top notch performance in my book.

Maybe you can give this a shot and show us how you do...

Just a little more time. I will upload it to Megavideos. Then we need a few minutes for it to go live on their server. I'll post a link shortly.

Awesome vids Broos. ;)

Cause they probably wouldn't win. edge angles are way too steep, they are more like axes than a knife. OH YEAH great for prying, so's a crowbar. Busses=sharpened crowbars made from GREAT steel.

I actually own a crowbar and a few Busse's. I don't think if I sharpened my crowbar it'd be like a busse.

Fail simile is fail.

Finally. Dang that took longer than I thought. :(

Anyway, here is a vid I just shot of my BATAC SE cutting through a 2" phone book. This knife only has a 5" blade so I was unable to cut directly down the center of the phone book. Thus I cut off the corners which still measured 2" in height.

You will notice on several cuts the BATAC cuts easily through the phone book only to stop about .25" shy from the bottom. If you look close you will see that it is caused by the front guard where the front talon hole is. It kept getting in the way. So did my nuckles. I didn't realize this until I viewed the video.:o:p

But you will notice that on one or two of the cuts I move the book off to the side so that the talon hole/front finger guard is not in the way. Then it easily cut the remainder.

Nothing fancy. Just simple push cuts. And I tried to just push and not rock so at least one of these has to be competition legal. :p
