2007 Blade Show Cutting Competition- Why no Busse?

What are we trying to prove here? i just did that with my homemade 01 hunting knife all 4 corners, hit some wood and did it again, but i suppose anything thats sharp and can hold an edge can do that to, can i enter my press into this if its a competition ? it cuts 1/2" thick steel 18 hours a day 7 days a week

Pics or it didn't happen.

I would think that just about any steel could do this if sharp enough. But how about you and I see which of our 2 knives can pry better. ;)

My point here is that Busse knives do not claim to be the sharpest in the land. What they are are knives that perform really well in a multitude of categories. Cutting, edge retention, prying, chopping, etc...

Entering this contest and winning it year after year would certainly put an end to any arguements about the "Ultimate" knife steel. {non-stainless}

This is what drew me into this thread. It seems that bearcut thinks that the sharpest knife is the best knife. Perhaps to some. And that is okay. But for some of us things like prying, chopping, batoning, edge retention, corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, etc.. are what we look for in the "Ultimate" knife steel.

Jerry has an open challenge regarding his product. Bring it. :)

Sure, in fact i'm the one that asked a long time ago exactly what the test consists of just to do them, but that thread was immediately closed. I test metals of all sorts, I just heard about this new steel and asked about doing some tests and got called a trouble maker, lol, i have nothing against these knives at all, in fact they look great, i just needed info on the tests that were done, I have no problem at all destroying one 100% against another, I mainly test broad heads for archery with German Kinetics's being my cousins business, and we run that through concrete blocks at over 220 mph with no blade distortion, the only way a test could be done anyways if they were both as similar as possible, I'm sure Busse is easily in the top 5 knives, I' just wanted to repeat the tests since its what i do, and when i asked exactly what they consisted of, i get called names and everyone gets so defensive.... sad

fastcamo: I don't think I was around when you asked in that thread so I'll have to leave that to someone else. But let me try this thought...and this is just me.

Let's say that Jerry did tell the public exactly what he does in his tests and how they perform. And let's say that someone, having a bone to pick with Jerry or his product or Busse users, decided to do similar tests in such a way that they make it look like Jerry's knives do not perform the way he claims. That's just not a good situation. IMHO.

So that is why I appreciate Jerry's open and live challenge to anyone and everyone. That way both Jerry and the challenger and the public could make sure things are done fairly. Just the way I see it.

Most, if not all, of us Busse users have and love many other brands of knives. Some stay sharper for longer. Others have better corrosion resistance. etc... So we have knives made with a specific purpose of being the best at one thing or another. Now Busse knives do not claim to be the best at any one thing. But they are one of the best all arounders IMO.

BTW: You have way too much fun at work. Sounds super cool. ;)

How about a brick cutting contest. :D

Fastcamo, I just read through the thread Infi and their non-existant competition and I don't see where anyone called you names or labeled you a troublemaker.

Progunner,
Where, pray tell, in this thread did I start a 'tall tale'?

Where?

The Busse owner started the tall tale.

He didn't 'exaggerate', he lied.

I was refering to the 2007 Bladeshow West article in Blade magazine; Feb 2008 edition.

I was simply asking why Jerry's company doesn't enter these contests.
Why don't they?

I hope you do ask Jerry to enter a contest. This would answer a lot of questions.

Blah, blah, blah. I was referring to your tales that I quoted above, post #9 of this thread. Tyrkon's halving of phone books came in post #10. That is my basis for calling things tall tales. With your previous bias against Busse in other threads, you can see how someone construed the starting of this thread as you having ulterior motives rather than you just posting a simple question.

Sus Scrofa, I leave it to you. I wish not to participate in anymore of this discussion.

fastcamo: You may want to look at knifetesting.com and view the test Noss did on the Scrap Yard knife. Not a Busse but from the same family. Plus, he will be doing a destruction on an FFBM in January sometime I think. At least you will see what these knives can take and then see if your other knives perform similarly. Just a thought. :)

Yea i don't want it to start anything either, I truly would just like the best knife that i find there, by opinion wise it seems thats the way i should lean with so many happy customers, can i make the best knife? no, but can i get a %&*load of steel of about any kind? OH YEA!
I spend probably about three to 4 days short of three solid months in the mountains taking people on archery and guided rifle hunts, so yes i use a knife a lot, do i want the best, yes, since i do a lot of the testing i just wanted to see just how durable it really was, I have lots of machines and presses that i can hook anything to and see exactly how much force it can take or put out, no human interaction at all, the only thing i asked for was what the test consists of is all, I haven't been to any shows and never have known the details of any test or challenges. I can't just take someone product and put it under stress's it may have not been designed to do, the only thing would be to compare for my own satisfaction or anyone else that was interested... I'm sure I'll end up buying one in the future anyhow.

fastcamo: I am a bit of a "Doubting Thomas". ;) So I had to do some testing of my own. Even some abuse just to see if Busse knives were really as tough as other's said. I too am unable to make it to the shows Jerry is at or I'd be there in a flash. And to check out all the other great knives and goodies as well.

And I am sure there are other brands out there that would impress me as well. But I can only afford so many knives and Busse makes an awesome product IMO.
