I started on 4 blades today. Doing all the operations at the same time for each blade. One of the 4, the best one, will be for the Xmass exchange. I'll send pics when they are done.
Finally, I am starting with mine this very same weekend. I don't know if it will be ready for Christmas, but I will try hard. Too bad I couldn't start earlier. My pseudo-workshop is not exaclty where I live (1h drive away) and I can only go there on weekends.
I just send two blades to Paul Bos for HT,
I am making two identical, the best one goes to recipient
I am very excited and very nervious at the same time

Finished my knife for a November auction last weekend. I've got two blades roughed out
for this swap. I'll get the tangs shaped and drilled and a little more finish shaping on the
blades starting tomorrow (get to use my new Uncle Al carbide file guide, which is much
nicer than it looks on his web page).
If I'm really lucky they'll get heat treated Sunday, if not it'll be next weekend.
Finished this one a couple of weeks ago for a KITH on another Forum.
I'll finish up the one for this KITH this weekend. This was my first camp knife and about my 15th or 16th knife to make. I will say that joining in these KITHs pushes me to hone my skills and is great fun. Thanks for letting newbies participate.
O-1 tool steel, 3/16 inch thick
8 ½ inch blade, 13 ½ inches overall
green canvas micarta handle
stainless steel pins
I gnarfed mine up pretty bad on the grinder, so I have to start over from scratch...it happens from time to time. I guess I'll chalk it up to experience and try to get it right this time! -Matt-
I got the 4 blades ground out today with the the bevels belt polished to 320 grit. I will hand sand tomorrow to 400 grit prior to heat treat. I did 2 blade styles with 2 of each type. The handles will be sappy amboyna cut from these blanks. I am thinking of doing red liners for a Chrstmas touch.
Here are a few shots of the blade that will be my Xmas gift exchange knife. I am not showing the whole thing to keep some mystery. I have it ground out and hand sanded to 400 grit and ready for heat treat. The knife in the background is not the same blade.
