2008 Knifemakers Christmas Gift Exchange! (2nd Annual)

Here are photos of a knife being made by one of the participants. The maker emailed me the photos so that even if you get a package with his name on it, you'll have no idea what knife is inside! It's a 10" blade made out of 1095 and the block is stabilized amboynia. Some one is going to be very happy!

I got a bunch of work done on my exchange blade this last weekend, and I'm going to hit up the NCCA show in marlboro MA this coming sunday for some handle material. I actually started over on a new knife for the exchange blade after learning more about the person I'm making the knife for, so that it will be a style closer to what they describe as enjoying in other posts =)

I just got back on Saturday from Singapore and finally got some time in the shop this afternoon to start finishing out mine! I have a few scratches to sand out but I think the person who gets it will be pleased! I'm getting really excited to see what I get! :D

Another one being made. The photos sent to my email to keep the maker hidden. It's almost done.

Specs are:
It is made of AST34 and polished to a mirror surface, it is 7” overall and has a 3 ½ “ blade.

The handle is Bocote with red spacers ( since it’s Christmas) With brass pins.

I would call this a skinner that would work very well in the kitchen. A very nice knife for someone.

Thanks Guys. Yes. those are my pins and that was the last of that rod. I have a whole pile of tubing, round and square plus some different sized and metal rods to make a bunch more though

Here's mine, almost complete. Have to do the final hand rub on the blade, shape the handle out and ship it out to the recipient :D

I this a OPen it on christmas or when it gets here in the mail kind of thing LOL I am bad at peeking. When I was a kid I blamed my little brother for tearing a hole in each corner of the presents and then was shocked when my oldest did the same thing. LOL

That's even better! It's like a second Christmas when they do get it! As far as awesome, I think everyone here will attest that as long as the maker does his best, there won't be any complaints. Thanks for the comment, you ought to see it with the handle shaped and I'm on the 4th coat of teak oil for the Amboyna....looks like you can grab the swirls that are popping out at you :D

Larry,

I don't know about the others but I'm popping the seal on that puppy when I get it. :)

Same goes here. I have two blanks almost ready for a handle and the one that looks better will be sent. It is my first time at doing a flat-saber grind and I had a little trouble getting both bevels of the same with... I did better in the second one I ground but I noticed a little dimple on the spine (using leaf spring... not exaclty precission flat ground stock you know...). I will decide once they are finished.
