Thank You Joezilla!

You just took the award for my favorite Mod:thumbup:

:D

I keep catching these rough fish. This is a Buffalo. A lot like a carp, better eating but doesnt pull as hard.

The only rough fish I have ever tried to eat was drum and it was some of the most mealy meat I've ever had. The flavor was mediocre at best. Are carp and buffalo any better?

SDS

Nah, they are all on the low end of the edible scale. Drum can range from delicious to yuk!!

I agree. This should be made a sticky, especially as we'll all have the rest of this year to continue to contribute to it.

Some from a week on the coast:

Oh man. I haven't had Flathead for years. I remember when a neighbour used to catch five or six, off his front lawn (he had a waterfront) and give me two when i was a real small guy. I used to take them home and we'd have a good feed.

Thanks Dipbait, I'm guessing mine was way towards the low end of that scale.

Miasma and Southerncross, you Aussies sure have some odd looking critters down there.

Tony what gear you rockin? For my bass rig i go shimano calcutta/falcon cara 7ft. I sling alot of spinner baits and Gulp sinkin minnows (AWESOME!). My panfish rig is a shimano symetre/falcon cara 5'6" ul rig..see a pattern here? :D

I never checked out those Falcon Cara's, I take it you like them:thumbup:

Here's whats in my tackle bag, minus some other soft plastics, and spinnerbaits.

Wow they look identical to the smaller lingcod we catch up here in Vancouver, had to look at the location.

Heres a nice flathead (almost 2 lb) I caught while using my mini survival fishing kit. I caught this one in a stream in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, NSW, Australia. A great place for day walks and if you get the tide right, a touch of fishing on the way through.

After a quick steam in the pot with a splash of soy sauce, chopped shallots, a touch of finely sliced ginger, and a sprinkle of course ground cracked black pepper, you get....mmmmmm simple but sweet!

If anyone is interest, here is how I made my own mini survival fishing kit. (Yes, it's the small thing I'm holding. No not the fish, in the other hand!)

It's compact, simple but effective, and the best thing about it is you can easily make one yourself.

Have fun!
