2010 Forum Knife - Mission Statement

Hello all, I believe this is my first post even though I have been reading bladeforums for a year or so. I recently saw a thread about the barlow from last year and WOW! it was nice. I am wondering if there are rules to who can order one of the 2010 knives once everything is decided.

Yes, of course there are rules, where have you been? First, you need to send $5 paypal to all who paid and are to recieve the 2009 BF knife, then, we take a vote to decide to let you in or not.:D

Actually, no........ Just follow the thread, and when the chiefs in charge say pay your money and send your box self addressed stamped, do it, and do it right, to not create extra work or hassles. If I was organizing this, I would appreciate all who just follow directions, and make the job easier, than a few who are late, do not follow directions, and then post a few, "oops sorry I screwed up on the directions." and then blather on about how great the organizers are.

Oh, wait.... I want to say how great the organizers of this years campaign are.:D

Hey all I don't know if it is possible, but what if we used the sodbuster handle and a nice clip blade to go in it. Sorta something so that it would look like a backpocket? That with stag scales would tickle me silly.

Breaking news!!!!
Our stag benefactor has offered again to supply top notch stag for our project!! You coulda pushed me over with a feather!!

That is extremely generous. I would most likely pass on any stag handled offering though, as the 2009 knife was also stag and it is not a handle material that I much care for.

Wow. Thank you stag benefactor! Unfortunately now there will be no way for me to convince anyone to go for black micarta scales. Stag vs. micarta....hmmmm, who wins that one :D

Stag would be a perfect handle material. I think the idea of a two blade knife suits me. I rarely have a use for an awl but as long as the main blade is a proper clip point or spear point I can make due. The regular jack, curved jack, serpentine jack or double end jack patterns are interesting to me right now. As an old land surveyor I noticed the 'SURVEYOR JACK' pattern in LG4 on page 170 and it is what I look for in almost every knife I carry. Definitely carbon steel for the blade. As for how the Blade Forums emblem is displayed I like the special shield idea but the tang stamp isn't bad either. The etched blade idea doesn't seem to appeal to most people but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. After perusing the patterns in my LG4 I am now totally convinced that... I can't pick just one!!!

I really like the large, tear drop and equal end models shown, especially the cattleman, and love the idea of a tang stamp instead of an etch. I personally don't get much use from the awl on any of my knives that have them, and would rather see a second blade, but I'll probably sign up for whatever is chosen if the price stays reasonable.

FWIW, I'd love to see some ebony scales.

edit- it seems I skipped the part about the stag benefactor. Stag sounds pretty good, too!

I would have to say....."We do not want to look a gift horse in the mouth." This gift horse is sportin a stag grill.:D Bling bump! I think keeping the costs down via this type of collaboration is great. It also gives the knife more soul via BF member generosity.

Just to clarify, I wasn't referring to the quality of the stag on the 2009 knife. By all accounts it is very high quality. I just not fond of any stag. :)

I would never imply that you were not a gracious, appreciative, upstanding, distinguished, honored, and venerable gentleman member of this fine community, as well as a fellow Scotsman. Well, on second thought, gentleman may be a stretch.:foot: I've seen some of your posts..:D:D:D

I cannot with clear consciousness join your no stag clan McGregor! This is bigger than loyalty to our beloved homeland and our fight against the crown! (scottish accent implied :o)

Ah yes, it is well known that due to geography your fondness is for sheep...bata bump!:D

I would like to see a Queen/S&M Slim Coke Bottle or Doctor's knife. D2 would be nice.

That stag sodbuster with a clip blade sounds very interesting. That or a jack with a spear and smaller clip blade, in stag of course. I am new here and in for anything you guys come up with after seeing the previous knives!

And, here's an image of a teardrop Harness Jack, as described above;

Oh yeah! Would love to see something along these lines in stag. I'm in for one no matter what the pattern though- unless the a/c dies this summer, the hurricanes take the roof away, etc etc.

Micarta, hands down, for this guy. I realize I sound like an ungrateful ass, but stag has little to no appeal for me. Can we take a break from it this year and ask our benefactor to wait until 2011?

Hi rbmcmjr -

Hey - you like what you like.

I would take stag over all others - stag is my all time favorite and I could never have enough.

Micarta is nice - albeit not as "traditional" IMO, although I suppose it is surely getting there and will no doubt be a classic scale material in the future.

best regards -

I agree it's very generous and kudos to the mystery benefactor.

I am with CarpScot and rbmcmjr, though, in that stag is not my preferred handle material (I think out of a couple dozen traditional knives in my collection, I have one stag handle). While it won't be a deal breaker for me (I bought one of the 2009 stag handled knives after all) given my choice, I would have preferred the earlier suggestion of black micarta this time round. I would even suggest a poll on handle materials, but it seems pretty obvious from the responses in this thread that most of the potential buyers on the forum are "stag hounds". :o
