Well that's a dandy also (and quit being coy Charlie...you want a HJ)

Geez, I've really branded myself!
As you can see Campbell, I've already got one!
(or two:D)!
I do like that knife as a Moose though! Or a Cattle knife!!

Here's GEC's clip blade in the Equal End knife pattern. Of course it is also a punch jack, or HJ.
I am certainly not fixed on having a punch; it's just what I have available.
I'll keep trying to drop in pictures as they are relevant, to help people visualize things, and thanks to all who are also doing this.
Let's keep this thread perking along for a few more days, to make sure everyone gets to see it, and maybe put in an idea.

How does the F&F of GEC compare to S&M?

This, for y'alls consideration, is one of GECs best lookin' bones, called burnt grizzly cut bone, in the same equal end cigar pattern. It has a master spear with secondary clip.

So most like Queen Cutlery? It seems good choice.
Queen Cutlery full sized country cousin ( Sodbuster) with D-2 tool steel and jigged or smooth bone handles either gunstock green or queen's beautiful red. Special shield and if possible also special tang stamp.

Why Soddie: Its one of the most functional patterns, highly traditional, simple no BS knife when well done is beautiful. And there ain't many people in these forums who hate sodbuster pattern.

Soddie is pretty simple pattern, single blade, gives us more room to manneur with stamps, shields, finger grooves and handle materials. Has there even been Sodbuster as before as forum knife pattern?

IMHO we should take now the pattern there hasn't been before. Or at least for a 10 years.

Queen Cutlery do not make a 'full sized' country cousin
It is 3 5/8" and the blade is fairly narrow, not full bodied like the Case

I'd like to see a large Trapper with a Wharncliffe blade, or perhaps a Coke Bottle Hunter.

In carbon steel, of course.

Thank you gentlemen for taking on this project. For my $.02... How about a Harness Jack from Queen or GEC?

+1 A 4" Muskrat would satisfy the need for a bigger Forum Knife, without getting so large as to discourage smaller-knife lovers. You get the benefit of a clip and wharnecliff blade, all in a thin single-spring package. I could see one of the knifemakers here contracting to make some cool redbone or Schrade Walden brownbone. 1095 or D2 should be a popular steel for this.

I could also go for a single-blade shadow pattern like a sodbuster, in micarta and CPM154.

Oh, the choices.

I am in for a couple of whatever we decide.

For now I'll toss a thought in for a harness jack or stockman with leather punch.

Thanks to you three for stepping up. We are in great hands for this project.

For me a single blade would be a deal breaker. My primary clipped folder is single blade and I want more variety in a slipjoint.

My Ideal knife for this would be a mix of what is stated: A large main Wharncliffe, leather punch and smaller blade with belly. I'm not stuck on blade steel or handle material (although celluloid is not something I like), although I'd really like a carbon wharncliffe. I think that the punch would work very well on a wharncliffe whittler, and a curved blade to augment the straight wharncliffe. I'd even be good with smooth micarta (I'd choose red but I bet black would go over better) to keep price down. (I have looked for a custom like this and it would really make my year- I wanted it as a graduation present).

To me this would probably be the ultimate slipjoint- something like a dogleg whittler with a punch (would have been much easier to say that first wouldn't it).

As usual I'm onboard for the 2010 knife, heck I've beenthere for them all so far why stop now? :)

Is it possible or practical to reconfigure this knife frame with a thinner swedged, saber grind Turkish clip blade, keeping the punch blade?

Some (not all) answers.
Neeman, GEC has come up to a very good standard of fit and finish. In their initial months, they had some bobbles, mostly because of a very new workforce. But they have proven themselves very well over the last couple of years - An American success story really.
Canal Street has the benefit of cutlers with long experience at Schrade, and Queen's fit and finish is legendary. We are lucky to be able to negotiate with three top notch establishments.
Beaver, these cutleries will alter things to a certain extent for us, but will not go too far outside the traditional norms. Their reputation is on the line as well as our desires. A Turkish clip fits in a toothpick or possibly a trapper, especially a thin one. It'll also fit a serpentine stockman, and of course a Muskrat, but is too slender for a beefy cigar pattern they tell me.
There are some other ideas or wishes here that might not fit the look of a traditional slipjoint, and are only possible in a custom made knife.
Please everyone, keep in mind, the "traditional" part of our mandate.

Boy, am I ever preachy this morning! I think I'll go take a nap!! (The prerogatives of retirement, even though it's semi-retirement!! . . . . . . . ..I have taken semi-naps!:D)

A Tear Drop Harness Jack in Stag would really be something to have !! A D-2 blade would be nice to go along.

Hi waynorth -

That is great news.

I would be in for any traditional folder with stag scales. This will be my first ever forum knife (since I just found this forum a few months ago....)

Best Regards -

That is such a generous offer. I want to thank our stag donor, and the team heading up this project.

Hello all, I believe this is my first post even though I have been reading bladeforums for a year or so. I recently saw a thread about the barlow from last year and WOW! it was nice. I am wondering if there are rules to who can order one of the 2010 knives once everything is decided.
