2010 Kershaw "Rake" by Tim Galyean

Good Grief.

"Features" on knives,huh?

Granted a strong lock, ergonomic grips, sharp edge, good build quality, a good way to deploy the blade, lo profile clip...those are all features.

It gets to a point where more "features" becomes less with a flipper and a thumbstud then throw in that tell tale "snikt" that makes civilians think you have a switchblade?

No thanks, that is less about features and more about gimmicks in imo.

2Brothers, take it down a notch, going to eleven for humor is silly.

So, the hole on a Spyderco is a gimmick?
How about the IKBS on the Ripple or AutoLawks on some of the Carson flippers from CRKT?
I guess the Hawk Lock on the RAM is a gimmick also.

Those are all features. Just like a lanyard hole or a pocket clip that is reversible. Just like a flipper, a/o, and a thumb stud.

All features on all knives could be considered gimmicks by your way of thinking.

But then again, what do I know. I have only been a salesman for 15 years.

I am glad you guys like the Rake! I tried to come up with a blade that would excel in many different cutting tasks, so I basically blended the JYD and Lahar blades together.

I don't think a clip design is set in stone. What do you guys think of the ZT style clip for tip up / tip down carry?

Love that Rake! It would be hard to replace the JYD II comp I like so much, but I could be persuaded....

Who am I kidding. I know I would keep both.

I like the tip up carry a lot if it is oriented so that the blade goes against my pants seam, away from my "goodies". I climb and crawl around a lot in my job and with tip down I get change jammed in the knives and have actually had them open when tip down. They get a dime or something wedged in the works, and as I move around working, it pushes the dime in further, and the knife opens. While this isn't a problem on a smaller knife, it is for me on a larger one like this one, or my other larger clip-to-pocket knives.

If it is pivot down with the blade secured against the pant seam, it is completely secure against change, keys, or any other stuff that winds up in my pocket during he work day.

I am really looking forward to this one hitting the production lines.

Great work!!

Robert

Remove the A/O spring and you have knife that has no detent, meaning that blade will just flop around. A knife with no detent can be classified as a gravity knife which is illegal to carry.

The "Rake" has a pretty serious belly on it, would probably make for a good little skinning knife. I like the use of CPM-D2, wish we could see more of that.

Now that depends a what country or state you are in. In all states have their own definition's of gravity knife and countries too. I am not sure what kind of law's in Singapore are (where poster said A/O is illegal)

I myself cannot feel any difference in manual turned Kershaw Needs work vs. any of Kershaw Flippers. Heck I am sure officer would have pretty hard time too or does this make all Kershaw flippers illegal in the Texas?

But on the topic again: Great work mr. Gaylean. I always missed a lanyard hole in my Junkyard Dog II Composite. A good enough reason for me to buy this knife eventually and I agree what ahs been said about pocket clip. Lahar's simple pocket clip would fit very nicely on this one.

Sounds GREAT! :D (It must be at least Tip-up)

Your own clip that you put on the JYD Pro-series would look even better IMO.

Boy, do I love that color on the blade. Whats the other one like that, like a junkyard dog or something?

Anyone know when this knife might be released? Most of the retailers I trust to buy from say pre-order.

I give mad props to Thomas and the Kershaw folks for coming up with great designs with great materials at an extremely affordable price. Great knife!

Can we get some feedback from Thomas or Tim about the specs of the

knife....blade length, handle length, and approx. weight.

Any approx. release date ?

Whats with the hole?

What hole are your referring? I don't see it.

I love folders with alot of belly, and from the looks this knife should be just as ergonomic as the JYD series. Thought I'd share!

Tip up or down, either way will work for me. As far as the clip goes I haven't handled a JYDII yet as mine is still on it's way from Kershawguy. I can say I like the looks of the ZT clip much better especially if it would make it easier to accommodate tip up/down changes in the production process.
