Notice to all that pay with a money order:

Please make me the payee, Chris Shreenan, not "2011 BF Knife". I am not sure the bank will accept that, and then I will have to mail it back to you. My checking acct. is still just my name. I will contact anyone privately if I have to send their MO back to them.

Hi Chris -

I just sent my order for 5 knives. That should mean we are at the magic 100 knives number!!

Plus I will have a few for people who miss out on this opportunity and need one later.

best regards -

Your buying a few extras for those who might miss out is really a kind gesture! You don't happen to have a spare 2009 do you? ;)

Finally sent the money for my two. Now I'll try to forget about them until one day when they show up.

Notice I said I'd try . . .

This is the current list of paid knives. It includes Paypal and Money orders. I should have one more member who pm'd me regarding a payment on the way. It was not in todays mail.

Hi timcsaw -

No, unfortunately for me, I had just joined this forum and did not order one of those beauties. I would love to find a 2009 knife someday.

Thanks for the kind words regarding ordering a few extra. I figure it will be easy to recoup the investment, I already have one friend who wants one of the 2011 knives, but cannot afford to buy in until after the order deadline.

Now that we have the minimum order amount (100 units), we can all breathe a sigh of relief....that is until the shipping starts!

Great job on the mock up Gene. Hey guys, is the propellor shield a done deal? Just curious, and I think it looks good. I was hoping for a propellor or a bowtie. This project is really together.

This is the shield we will be going with. GEC sent us a picture last week.

Andy, will you add this to your original post? I think Gene will also update his labels with this shield so the labels are true to the actual knife.

Wow the shield on this years knife will be awesome!!! I think that will bring the whole design together best, anyone not in on this will be kicking them self for missing out if they dont get in by the cutoff thats for sure.

That brings the total to 77. There are many members who are committed as per their voting on the pattern and such, so I am confident we will hit 100 soon, but I will breathe much easier when we do.

I have been waffling on this design for a while but wanted to address the following IMO. For me I did not vote on this years poll because I am very picky with the knife I buy and as such did not vote as many features are a turn off for me. That being said I felt bad not voting for patterns as I did want to put my opinion into the poll. I can see many wanting the design but there being a feature decided on that is a dealbreaker to them. Thus by voting in the poll you are agreeing to buy something that you don't want. I know that I have a limited budget for knives and do not buy things that I do not want. For instance the cap lifter is the feature that I am not sure with. If it was a 2 blade there is a greater chance of me buying it. So for me the dilemma was: do I vote and put my number into the poll when there is a good chance of me not buying OR do I not let my opinion known.

Just trying to give my POV as this process went forward this year.

Plus: anybody that can convince a 3 blade slipjoint user that a one blade with cap lifter is just as useful can try and help convince me to buy one!

Well, the thing about these forum knives is that you can't make everyone happy...you can just take the consensus of the group and try and do a knife that makes the most people happy. To some, the knife may not be ideal. To some, it may be exactly what they are looking for. I can't fault someone for not buying one if it's not the type of knife that is useful to them or find appealing. There is always next year....if you want, feel free to chat with Andy, Chris or myself and get on board the 2012 knife committee. That way, you can help push a pattern that you enjoy.

Oops, sorry.

I'll give it a shot.

I am never without a Stockman in my pocket. I like having three blades to choose from when I need to cut something. I find that all three blades on a Stockman are useful at one time or another depending on the task at hand.

In all honesty, I'm sure I could get by just fine with only one blade. Truth be told, I just need a sharp blade.

I seldom need a caplifter but sometimes I could use a screwdriver. I don't carry a multitool but I do have a Swiss Card in my wallet that contains a very small screwdriver. The screwdriver/caplifter on this forum knife would be much more useful to me than the one on my Swiss Card. I think I would find other uses for the caplifter as well that I cannot even think of right now.

I'm not giving up my Stockmans for any reason but I think the caplifter on this knife is a nice feature. It's also going to be the first run of this pattern from GEC. Makes it kinda special.

Then there is always the old cliche: "It's better to have it and not need it than it is to need it and not have it". :D

Open then close all blades/accessories 3 times, open 3 bottles, tighten 3 flat-drive screws, cut up 3 cardboard boxes, and then sharpen your knife. I think the 2011 forum knife will be quicker in nearly every one of those tasks than a 3 blade. Isn't a 3 blade slipjoint a bit redundant in tasks it can do compared to 1 blade and 1 caplifter/screwdriver? If you don't like the pattern that is fine, but I don't think you can claim the 2011 forum knife and 3 blade slipjoint are equally useful.

I wasn't too struck by the rubric of if you vote then you're committed whatever the result. But, those were the conditions.

Let me persuade you of the merits of this 2 blade Jack over a triple blader:It will come in handy for grilling tasks let me tell you.
Broad Spear blade for prodding meat to see how it's done, turn over, spread some butter and shallot on the meat prior to serving, mmhh! Then in all that heat, you need a bottle opener to access cold beer or cider!

Need any more convincing? Don't tell me you're a vegetarian tea-totaller...but even then!

I might be alone here but I find myself rarely using blades other than the main with my multi-blade slipjoints. :o I was against the caplifter (voted for the awl punch) to begin with, but now I love the idea.

Day to day chores, I never use more than one cutting blade. Occasionally I will carry a 2 or 3 blade folder with me, but it's mainly because I like the knife. Exception is when I'm in the woods or hunting. There, I do use multiple blades for different tasks. But as I've gotten older, my time in the woods is becoming less and less (but it's still a lot). I can get by with 1 cutting edge 90% of the time, and when I need more than 1 cutting edge, I just carry 2 knives!!! One of the reasons I like the 2011 knife is because outside of scout knives, I don't have a caplifter on any knives.
