Ok so it ended up being one of the last gifts I opened but I was happy when I saw that tube and immediately popped it open, first impressions were a very clean, crisp and well finished knife. I like the spring tension on both blades and the half stops are quite nice, I did however have the notch in the blade from the hump in the back spring but I re-profiled it while the wife got ready on my new diamond hones and in like 8 minutes this problem was quelled. The hardness on these blades is nice and quite like my old sheffields and US made vintage pieces, it takes a very nice edge, very quickly even taking it to a 5 micron hone. Walk and talk is nice, its smooth, snaps closed nicely without hitting the hump after the mentioned re-profile of the edge.

The big issue people have had, the cap lifter...was there an issue? Not one at all, I popped open some root beers since I would be driving and it worked first time every time so I do not foresee any need to file my cap lifter up (I actually like it more than the one on my old imperial camp knife). I keep it in a new KSF pocket slip that I ordered specifically to house this knife which works fantastic, I really recommend them.

I really love this knife, and I am ecstatic it doesn't have to go back to the factory like my 2010 knife did. A bond was formed almost instantaneously. ;)

Congrats Robert. Mine is waiting for me at home. I hope to see it soon.

I just popped in again to see if you had opened up your pressie Rob...and yep...sure enough your review is up in here....very cool mate! its been a long wait for you bud.

great reading and viewing inside this topic. i have just a few questions, but first my critique on this knife.
i am a huge fan of easy open style knives, and this one stands up proud along side of any other eo that i own.
only drawback, and it was out of my hands from the inception of this knife,[ i wasn't even a member then], is that i would have voted for a secondary pen blade. not because of cap lifter disfunctions, no one even got to see the knife yet, its just that i never ever use one. always nice to have two blades on a knife that are useful. other than that. i love this knife and the special tube that it came in.
now my questions...what are the nine dots on the spear blade for, and what do the letters TIW on the cap lifter represent?

add a dot on the map for factoryville, pa. usa..

thanks rick, just that i never saw either of those used on gec's before.

Glad to help, my friend. I could be wrong but I think the "TIW" stamp is used on all Tidioute branded knives.

By the way, welcome to the Traditionals subforum. Nice to see you here.

I guess I had the honor of recieving the "last" of the 2011 forum knives as I recently won the chance to buy it, and all the other winners got free ones :p

Typically not a fan of the big spear point blade profiles, so passed on this one from the beginning, but started falling in love with how it turned out from the pictures.

Was not disappointed. Starting from that great little tube and wrapping. Almost giving the feeling of unwrapping something from a better time... Knife is absolutely fabulous. Great fit and finish. The main blade can be pinched open, but it is a bit of a pull. I'd say the main blade pull is perfect for me, the caplifter is one or two points higher, bordering on nail breaker status but not quite. Not really a big negative issue for me, and I feel with a bit of oiling and break in it'll be perfect. After a couple licks on the white sharpmaker stones it is more than sharp enough. Caplifter works about as well as any of this style I've ever used, namely it takes me at least two lifts to get the cap off.

Still just love the overall design, look, and feel. Can't quite put my finger on it, especially as it's not my usual cup of tea, but I like it.

Thanks to everyone who made this knife come to fruition.

Hi Seth -

Glad you received it safely - the other two that went out with yours both are shown as delivered.

There were 4 knives total, two were paid for in advance by two generous and benevolent sponsors from our midst, and the other two were provided to you and one other lucky member to buy as the last two knives available as part of the project.

Thanks for posting your review and I hope you love the knife as much as I do!

best regards -

Very cool knife guys, some great pictures; it really has made me sad/mad that I didn't get one. I guess I deserve it especially since I was oblivious about looking in the for sale forum for one and or give a try at the lottery mentioned. Guess it wasn't meant to be. :grumpy:

If next years sounds as good as this one I may just have to force myself to buy one.

Czech, it is a fine knife, mine is in the kitchen for cutting Oranges/Limes and getting the tops off beer and cider!

Keep an eye out on the For Sale traditionals area, will be worth snapping up if you get the chance.

Well I finally got to join the club today! A very nice fellow forum member sold me one of his, thanks again Corey! I just received it 5 minutes ago so I can't say a lot about it other than it seems to be pretty close to perfect. I don't see a flat spot on the edge from it hitting the inside of the handle but just in case I'm not going to let it snap shut until I get ready to sharpen it. I'm really happy with it and I'm super happy I got a shot at one. I didn't have time to snap any pics but they aren't really nessicary anyway, everyone knows what they look like by now. I guess another one can be added to the map in Alabama.
