2011 Forum Knife Picture/Review Thread

I have re-distributed all but one of my extra knives, and they have reached their destinations!
Great "mqqn" map! Thanks for that Andy!! I'd like to point out to you, that two knives currently reside in Vancouver B.C. Canada, one happily splashed with (my) beer! Oh, and there's one in Eugene, Oregon.
I am happy I could send some extra knives out - cost me nothing but a little time, so you who have thanked me, are most welcome!

It's hard to believe it has only been in my pocket three weeks. It's spent in total about an hour in my pocket while I walked through pouring rain in that time, though, and that certainly aged it. At least the edge is sharp and shiny :)

I have been surprised to find the part of the blade that is mirror to where the EO is cut is leash likely to rust. Opening it from there, I'd have thought the oil/sweat/etc. from my fingers would make it rust most in that area.

Looking great! :D

Hi folks -

I added Eugene and Roanoke to the map -

I took a dremel with a cut-off wheel and some diamond grinding tips to rework the cap-lifter. Took about 20 minutes, and now it lifts caps in one try. Still no camera for taking pics.

I love my knife even more, now!

Hi guys -

Glad to hear the international packages are finding their ways home -

Willgoy - I am working on it!

This is a very cool map - thanks, Andy!
Astonishing that I'm the only one in Germany and maybe even in Europe except Scandinavia.
Or is this map showing delivered knives only? In that case you would have to put Germany in brackets :(

Anyway it's nice to see where they all have gone to. Thanks a lot

Thanks for the great map, Andy. You guys have done such a super job with the forum knife. The map is some icing on the cake!:thumbup:

A brief update: I've used the bottle opener on 5 bottles since I've gotten it (not a big drinker) and 4 opened on the first shot and one took two tries. I don't know if it's the type of bottles, luck or technique but it seems to work fine for me. All the bottles were from the same brewery, Trappistes Rochefort. Those are the only bottles that I had besides ones with twist off caps. I didn't try the lifter on twist off caps -- didn't see a reason for it. The screwdriver was the main reason that I voted for the caplifter/screwdriver. It has also performed up to expectations. Love that big spear blade too.

Hi guys
Well its beer o clock round here.
I've got one left in the fridge and this will be a first attempt with the hitherto
virgin 2011 BF traditional .
Only 4 of these in OZ which I think is fairly cool.
There has been much criticism of the caplifter.
The camera operator & director of photography have just got in from school.
So lets just see
how bad it actually is.
cheers

Nice video!

Here's some (low quality) video footage of some of my rigorous testing of the bottle opener. ;) Click on the photo to watch the video.

Thanks for the vids, fellows!

I still have to hit it two or three times to un-cap a bottle, but as I said, I am more of a whiskey drinker.

I have leveraged the screwdriver tool more than the cap-lifter, and it has served me well.

Got a Cider cap off in one last night! You have to go fast and angle it.
Tried opening a beer (Slovak) that has this nice foil over the cap, Champagne style, the opener did not like this one surprise, surprise:D:D

This is such a well-made knife and delivered very promptly that I had to get a Stag version 85 Jack, wonderful too!

I took files to my caplifter, deepening the notch, and now it works first time every time.

Ten minutes of work, for a lifetime of enjoyment!

Slick, Jake!! Nary a bobble!
I dare say you have mastered the tool. You will not suffer from dehydration. . . . . .

Well, mine arrived finally. This is amazing knife and being my first GEC I am very impressed. Indeed the caplifter has its issues but it's not detract anything from this unique knife. Thanks a lot to this year committee , GEC and everyone who made this knife happen.
Mike

Mike, I really believe it will not be your last GEC either.
Fine range of authentic knives that are constantly changing. That's the problem...:D
