I love this one. I especially prefer the blade shape:

I didn't know Case made an EO teardrop in 1987?!?!
I think that's an '87??

It appears to be about a 3 3/8" frame. A bit small for a Easy Open. I, personally, would like to see a large spear point blade for a master. What good is a Easy Open with a narrow Master Blade?? Even so, I doubt Case would make a special run for 100 or so knives for Blade Forums like we have grown accustomed to. Then again, maybe they will? Judging by last years voting, the cheapest knife got the nod and we lucked out by doing so. Thank You Queen! I wouldn't anticipate that re-occuring for any length of time. Cheapest isn't always best. You have to remember, any manufacturer that goes out of it's way to produce a specialized order of a paltry 100 or so knives is doing it because it wants to. Not because it needs to bend to the whims of BF members. We can make it a point to patronize the ones that do so with few compromises.
Something to think about now that Santa isn't granting any wishes for another year.

When I talked to Case about the 2009 BFC custom, the minimum was either 250 or 500 pieces. I'll be at SHOT and can talk to them again if someone wants.

Close, it's a 6228 variant and i think they're 3 5/8". I guess Case thought the blade choice worked. ;)

These are Case 6228Ps, from Tested and earlier. The top one (slick black) has a nearly full blade. They are just over 3 1/2" long. They made it without the punch in an EO configuration. I've never seen it with an EO AND a punch, nor with a bail.

I'd like to see a pic of that Case EO with the blade closed. While I really like clip points I am wondering how much blade there is to pinch open.
Still, a cool knife.

Unfortunately, it's not my knife and I don't have a picture of it closed. However, I do think that there is plenty of pinchable blade area on it when it's closed. If you think about where the blade sits while it's closed, the tip of the blade is probably buried just below the edge of the frame, and I think that would leave plenty of blade to grab onto. In addition, it looks like they kept the spey blade short enough so it doesn't interfere with pinching the main blade. Plus, would Case offer an EO model that wasn't easy to open?

Maybe some interested computer whiz can crop and cut the picture and superimpose the blade over the handle so we can get an idea what it would look like closed? I do like this combo. It reminds me of my Case 6231 1/2 and it would be great to have that one in an EO format. It would be a nice sturdy knife that just begs to do some cutting!

Actually I like the way my ring finger settles into the EO notch, kinda gives me a more secure feelin' when I hold it.

Charlie, love those. Remind me of the first two HJs you commissioned. Just had them out handling them. You know that second of the series had that tiny EO dip instead of a fill cutout. Gives a good purchase to the punch (would be good for a smaller blade too) without interfering with the blade length at all. That teardrop pattern would make a sweet knife with clean lines, but still have a little cutout and could be done in a jack, or HJ pattern either way. Could probably even use the old school can opener blade as well.

Show that one again if you would please. Just might make a nice compromise.

Hi guys -

I discussed this with Chris last night and he will close this thread shortly.

For the record, I have tallied up all the votes as best I can from this thread, and the following patterns are in order by number of votes descending:

easy open jack
teardrop jack
trapper
toenail/sunfish
peanut

We will be having discussions about the patterns and what can be done, then there will be an official poll thread where you will have your vote.

Personally, I have REALLY enjoyed all the great pictures and discussion in this thread - I have learned a lot already!

very best regards -

Amos, I think you are talking about this knife, with the small cutout on top for access to the punch!?

I suspect those wanting an EO are envisioning the larger notch for an easy "pinch-open knife, as on the Wilbert in a previous post.

It looks like an Easy-Open Teardrop is a clear leader!

Another example of what a Teardrop can be, this wild and crazy Wilbert has a mega-leaf shaped spear, candle-end bolster, and a generous EO notch!

Personally, I really like the size of the blade on this one... "mega-tear drop":). I also like the fact that it does have a generous EO notch as well. Not a fan of the black though...
