2012 Bladeforums Knife - Chatting Thread

Here are two quick and ugly mock up images for comparison of handle materials... obviously the grain pattern on the micarta and the jigging on the bone will be much smaller but I'm an amateur at photoshop.

Looks great, either way! I'm getting excited now...

I already voted Rams horn, very early on, but really, either of the front runners would be fine for me.

For an "amateur" you did a real fine job representing both materials Supra:thumbup:... thanks for your time and effort.

No matter what material we end up with, I'm in for at least one.

Nice job Jake! I like them both, but of course Brown bone
would look better...imho.

Jake,

I think they both look great but that micarta you picked is awesome.

Thanks for doing that.

I like these even better Jake!!

As for the lumberjack thread, the GEC #73 is Stained Green Tea. The one I posted is my favorite as it has more pale and translucent bone. Here's another pic of it. This next one was a little darker but its the one I had rehandled in denim micarta. The 3rd is a spare and is even paler than my first.

Another good GEC Bone, also from the 73 stainless 2 blade, is Sheffield Tobacco Jigged Bone. At least I THINK that's what it's called, can't find the tube just now.

Either of these jigged bones as they are lighter in colour, would be first rate. The Nat Micarta is also a handsome scale choice, different too.

Looks great Jake!!

Will, here's Sheffield Tobacco Jigged bone. I know that GEC had outsourced some of the early bone so I'm not sure that they are readily able to do this jigging again.

Not so crazy about theTobacco Jigged bone, it looks too symmetrical, how about the old Queen style Winterbottom Bone, (before anyone corrects me, I know it's a Delrin repo of Winterbottom Bone but I have seen real examples I even have some on a set of Queen Carvin' knives.).

Ya gotta admit it's a cool lookin' scale.

Queen actually revived that quite recently on their QCCC Teardrop, it's a red-brown colour.

You call that GEC symmetrical?? After a few 'rooms' maybe:eek:

Maybe symmetrical's the wrong word, it, (the jiggin') looks so linear, I like the style of jiggin' that's more random and either angled or curvy, just my own preference. FWIW. :)

Since this is a chatting thread I'm hoping to find out how this works. Last year I missed out, and got in on the thread(I think there were a couple leftovers) where a drawing was held...(not lucky that time :( ) my question is do we pre-pay, and by what method...paypal ? I don't want to miss out this year. Thanx for any help, and forgive me if this is the wrong place for such a question...

This year will be different from previous years. The process will be further firmed up, but as I understand it, once the knife has been completely negotiated and Spark has worked out a deal with the manufacturer, anyone wishing to puchase a knife will pay a non-refundable deposit through Spark's on-line shop - Onestopknifeshop.com, and once the knife order is tallied up, built, and shipped to Spark, we will then each pay the remainder and then he'll ship them out to everybody.

Look for the final poll for this year's knife (Micarta vs. Bone) sometime today.
