2012 Bladeforums Knife - Chatting Thread

Hey, I felt like resurrecting this thread.

Ash and I want to thank our Mods, Knarfeng and Peregrin, as well as knife committee members of years' past Waynorth and Cnas122, all around awesome guy Bastid, and graphical artist extrordinaire IVANKERLEY for everything that they've done to help us out with this knife. We hope that with their guidance this year's knife will be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with knives of years' past.

A big THANK YOU to you guys for all the work you guys have done. I like the "concept knife" in the photo by IVANKERLEY. I think it's great that the forum knife will be an entirely new pattern and not just a regular production knife with the Bladeforums stamp. If I understand correctly, the pattern is based on the Tony Bose Wharncliffe Trapper like the one in the photos below. I do hope it's ok with Tony that we use the pattern. What a beautiful knife! As far as changes to the design. I don't need any changes to Tony's pattern. ;)

Here's a little somethin else to feast on for your 4th of July weekend. ENJOY!

After seeing the drawings and concept photo I'm really looking forward to this knife. At first I wasn't so sure as I have Wharncliffe trappers by Case and a single bladed Scagel Wharncliffe on the GEC 48 frame. A totally new frame based on a custom maker's WT made by my favorite company trips all my triggers.

Now I just gotta save up some, and a couple others have to come off the 'to buy in 2012' list :D Might even have to sell a watch or two (!)

Jake and everyone, here is a reminder that I cleared it with Tony Bose, that we use his pattern. It's not an exact copy, but he said copying him is a sincere form of flattery, and he thanks us for the complement!

Folks, you have no idea how hard the team worked. You all owe them much, whether or not you like this year's knife. I owe them much. They were awesome.

I will buy a knife for sure and I surely appreciate all y'all dealing with the nitty-gritty part. All I gotta do is write a check.

Thank you to all who have been working so hard to get this done. I have seen this process from start to finish on a few different forums and I know it is never an easy thing to get going, let alone get completed.
It sounds like all the avenues have been checked and the winner is in. I'm glad to have GEC on board as the maker of the new club knife.

As far as paying for any set up costs, I have no complaint with the price point. I don't see how it's fair for anyone to expect a company to stop what they are doing now and to start another project that isn't even planned for this year. If there is a set up cost, lets get it done. I've spent $125.00 on lesser knives and I'll do it again.

Thanks again guys

Charlie, Thank you for checking. That was very gracious of Tony. It's a very popular pattern and this is a rare opportunity for us. The committee took this beyond what I expected... or even thought possible. I have no doubt that these will sell and that those that don't buy them will regret it.

Thank you to those that are making this happen.

A big +1, as well as a sincere "thank you" to all who have worked so hard making this happen!!!!

$100....... $125 ......... or even $1??........... who cares???? A nice knife, made by a good company at a fair price is what we'll be getting.

Hey guys! How is it hangin?

LOL.

This knife looks very good, and thanks to the members this year handling this! It is a daunting task of herding cats with a rake, that is for sure. I recall it all too well.

I am in for one knife, and am glad it is progressing with such a cool pattern. Two thumbs up.

Havin' been through this process 7 times here, I'm one of the few that has all the Traditional Forum knives, I just wanna say a few things.

Number one and above all else is the thanks to each and every committee and the individuals that made up those committees for the past and upcommin' knives.

I know sometimes it seems like all your efforts go unappreciated at times due to some of the heated threads and comments that result from the process of designin' and producin' each years knife.
I feel I can speak for the majority when I say we all appreciate all the time you guys give up to make this come true.

Secondly I wanna remind everyone that is takin' part in this for the first time, this was basically a majority rules kinda deal in the past where a committe of volunteers ran with this thing from beginnin' but that has changed this year as Kevin has stepped up to bear the brunt of this venture be patient, ya can't compare the process for this years knife to past knives, the design and production of these knives don't happen over night so again please be patient and let the powers that be do what we aked them to do for us.

Also bear in mind that not everyone is gonna be 100% satisfied with every minute detail of this project but that's not the fault of the committee members and no one should ever take it out on the volunteers on or off line, without thier time, these opportunities to get a unique knife associated with this forum wouldn't happen.

So if ya ordered 1,3 or 5 knives, if your not happy, don't blame the committee I would suggest takin' your issues to GEC and the only reason I mention this is because in the past I've seen post by members who were unsatisfied and they took out thier frustrations out on the wrong people.

Those of us who have been through this before try to be patient with the ones who are in this the first time and those of you who are plannin' on gettin' on your first forum knife, again please be patient and have a little understandin' for what the volunteers give up to make this happen.

Please keep this in mind, all this is JMHO.

Well said Mr. Erdelyi.

I count 146 votes in the poll thread with a few dropping out, but quite a few who are buying 2 or more... we must be close to the 200 sales needed (I hope). Start the presses! :D

This has been my "first time" in the process of deciding the BF knife, and I really enjoyed it.
I want to thank again (never enough) everyone who spent and spends time and effort to make this happen. I can imagine their work, and it's easy to understand it's no easy job.
As for myself, I admit the pattern has gone a bit far from what I hoped for. Still, I will probably get one anyway, partly because I feel like I'm part of all this (and that feels awesome), and partly because, even if I won't carry it, it would make an amazing gift.
Thank you again folks!

Fausto

Since this is my 1st time to be able to purchase a Forums knife, I am excited. It is hard to get a 68 year old man excited. lol. I want to thank so much the ones responsible for working on getting the plans ready for a new yearly knife. I know how much trouble it is to get 200 or so people to agree on just one thing, but I hope all come together and support these hard workers. I would like to make sure I am able to purchase one when they are available. Thanks again to those responsible.
Harold

I have a request. Please sticky the 'sign up' thread, so those of us who don't get here every day, won't miss it?
I have every TF&FB year knife so far and don't want to drop the ball! :)
