I voted sowbelly but congress jack would be my second.
I would like to see a clip blade and a wharncliffe,
3" to 3.5" length.
1095 steel. O1 would be my dream but is highly unusual. I hate stainless traditionals, half the beauty is the patina!

I'm going with the Sowbelly. Clip main,
Sheepsfoot secondary, Sowbelly shield.

I cast my vote for the Congress Jack. I think a bar shield would be great and the extended spring would be a nice touch.

I'm in for whatever is chosen by the majority.

My vote goes to a single spring sowbelly around 3 1/2" overall with either a clip or spey main and a sheepsfoot secondary. Long pulls, maybe even swedging on the main blade. As far as shield, no matter to me, even without would suit me fine.

1095 or O1 would be a plus. Or maybe even D2, that would make a good user in my opinion.

I voted for the 2 bladed sowbelly.
1-backspring to keep it slim in the pocket.
Turkish/California clip for the main blade. Sheepsfoot. or wharnie for the secondary.
Size 3 to 3.5 inches.
No real preference for a shield.

I voted for a Congress Jack. I don´t have any Congress jack yet. I think that´s an interessting pattern. With a bar shield would be nice... Well the handle materials would need some discussion. Steel is also an interessting question (carbon only, for me ;) )

Kind regards
Andi

Wharncliffe Trapper, no larger than 4", one-bladed, bareheaded. Honestly, I would prefer no shield.

I voted for the Congress Jack, but they are all very good choices. Any shield or no shield works for me.

Regardless of the pattern chosen, I'll take at least one.

Sowbelly with clip main and pen secondary, single backspring, 3 7/8 closed, 1095, acorn shield.

I voted for the trapper. Want a single blade like shown or a two blade with a pen secondary. I can buy some swayback jacks and gents, but not that much out there in a wharncliffe trapper save the fruitport. I like the federal shield. 3-7/8 closed.

I voted for the SBJ.I`d like to see a wharncliff as main and a punch as second blade. For the shield a oval or any other symmetrical shape, bareheaded please. A lined bolster would be nice too.

I voted for the single spring sowbelly.

If the handle material is premium (stag/ shell/ etc), then I vote for no shield.

Otherwise the shield in the picture would be fine.

As for blades, a replica of the knife in the pictures would be ideal. If that is the knife I remember, it almost has sunken joints with those blades.

BTW: Thank you for taking my pic of the SBG to opening post of the thread. I hope, the pic was good enough for beeing taken.

Kind regards
Andi

New to traditional blades....a lot of interesting choices. I voted for Wharncliffe trapper, something svelt and gentlemanly. Preferably single blade, single bolster, no shield.

is the voting for people that are definitely planning on picking one up?
i'd like to pick one up, but it depends on whether or not i find a job in time :p

i dont want to vote if that will muddy the waters or anything

I'm still fairly new here but I would certainly purchase the 2012 forum knife. That said, I think it should be a Wharncliffe Trapper with a spear secondary, a bomb shield, and single bolster.

This is a great question and wasn't mentioned in the OP (don't worry you're forgiven :p). IMHO you should only vote if you intend to purchase the knife. Obviously voting isn't a contract to buy; if you don't have funds when needed or you hate the knife that's chosen that's ok. Guess it should be up to the commitee but those are just my thoughts.

ETA: Rsmith in your case I'd say vote. Sounds like you intend to pick it up if you can so I'd say go for it

My first choice is the Large American Stockman.........
My second is the Wharncliffe Trapper.

But I am in for two no matter what gets chosen!:)
