i voted for the WT but after thinking of a CJ with a bar shield and tortoise shell i want to change my vote. trappers just dont look right with tortoise shell, they need stag

Both pattern looks winner to me, so either wins I'll get it... I threw coin and it said congress jack so I voted that.

I have voted for:

Congress Jack
Bar shield
Pen secondary
As shown

But if not then Trand

Wharncliffe Trapper
3 1/2" - 3 7/8"
2 blades - Muskrat clip in front of a Wharncliffe blade (Ie standard wharncliffe trapper config)
Barehead with Federal shield works for me.

Trand

Muskrat clip does equal California clip?

congress jack with a pen. I would like something different, I have others similar to the WT and really don't need another.

As long as it has 2 blades, either choice would make me happy.

I'd love a 3.5-4" wharncliffe trapper. I'd already own a Case mini-trapper if they came in non-neon colors (or expensive damascus versions).

As for the congress jack (which I've also seen called an "Irish congress"), I'd be happy with it as shown, as long as it's ~3.5" like a typical "medium" congress. I'd be even happier if a full sized spear blade was in place of the pen. But I don't know if there's any historical examples of such a knife, although I see no reason for it to not exist. If the consensus is for a pen secondary, I'd still be happy, and even happier if the empty space could be filled in with an extended backspring (like shown in the example). Aesthetically, I hate empty gaps.

I had no interest in the 2011 and 2010 knives since my taste in a traditional knife requires at least one curved and one straight blade (and I wasn't aware of the previous ones until it was too late). Either way, if it's between these two choices, I'm definitely interested this year. Hell, I'll be in for two of them. Between the two choices, I don't really know which I prefer. I like the WT trapper for utilitarian purposes, but I also like the congress for its uniqueness and novelty (and it's also utilitarian). It's practically a coin flip for me. I have a slight leaning towards a WT trapper (with 2 blades) simply because if I want a quality knife with a long straight blade and a pen blade, I can get a Case SBJ, even though it's a different pattern than the congress jack. Yet, a higher quality WT trapper in the 3.5-3.75" range has yet to present itself to me (beyond customs). I think the best choice would be to do one this year, and the other in 2013.:D I'll buy a couple either way.

I'm really surprised by this; I thought the CJ would pick up more votes from people who had voted previously for the Stockman and Sowbelly.

Looking at the first poll thread, I don't think everyone's voted yet. There are more CJ picks in that one than this one. We've still got about another 100 voters more in the other thread and this one so far.

Let's chat in the chat thread, ok?

Since the WT, at this point, seems to be the likely winner, I think it would look awesome with a corset or bomb shield, bareheaded, with a threaded, un-pinched bolster. Single blade so we have more folding money for things like nickel silver liners, stainless steel blade (variety is the spice of life) and maybe stag scales.

That's because the first poll ran over a weekend. A lot of guys that voted in it are only here on the weekends. This poll should run through this up-coming weekend.

I vote for the congress jack, and I don't really care about the secondary blade so long as it has some belly to it to offset the main blade. Although...a single blade CJ would make for a very classy, slim, pocket friendly knife. Definitely pinched bolsters and bar shield.

You have a very good idea pal.

How does a WT have a single blade? :D.

I think you just cut everything twice with the single blade Gus!

:D

It's "really" a single blade curved Jack. Trapper indeed implies two blades, IMO.

ok -picture this.
You just trapped a huge Polar bear out in the wilderness.
You think it's dead but just as you are about to skin it with your 2 bladed WT it wakes up and snaps off the blade with its jaws.
Now you have a single blade trapper. You ponder this as you attempt to outrun the beast back to your vehicle.
Unfortunately you are trampled by a flock of feral Bladeforumitus antarcticus (a rare species of penguin found only in cyberspace).
The scent of the damaged knife has attracted them much like buzzards to a dying cowboy.
Thats How.

Luckily you find the skull of an ancient Ram and are able to use its magnificent gnarly textured horns to fend the Bladeforumites off while you fiddlefart around
trying to find the car keys.
And all before morning tea time ...pheeeww.

DUDE!

You might damage those horns. Just keep the penguins between you and the bear.

("Jack" implies two blades also...)
