2012 HTM Forum Gunhammer: *Commitment/Sign-up* thread

Don't worry there will most likely be one for sale when these things are completed next year.

Any news, and why is it so dead over in this forum? And how do we change this? I know if my forum Gunny is on point, I will let the good word out:thumbup:

Did we ever find out if there will be progress photo's, Basically is there any news about the forum knife Neuron?

I think we at least deserve an update from Darrel or someone representing Darrel s company at least! I mean we have given him what thousands of dollars as a down payment? A simple update would be nice.

Darrel, via email, in response to me asking about the forum knife: "The forum knife is progressing along great."

Like Hark mentioned when passing along answers from Darrel, he's a man of few words. ;)

When I e-mailed Darrel about the Lambert he said this about the group buy:

They s90v is moving along.

We are taking extra care to make sure the knife is great.

I talked to Darrel today about the forum knife, and here are the details.

The S90V blades are currently being ground; they've already been rough ground and heat-treated. The other parts for the knife -- handles, titanium locks, pillar spacers, etc. -- have all been cut and machined, but the handles haven't been anodized yet.

Darrel anticipates that the handle anodizing is going to be the biggest holdup on the forum knife. They've sent away a few samples to be anodized, but so far none of them have turned out close to the shade of green that we had requested. Without the delays involved in the unique handle color (for instance, if we had gone with one of the standard colors instead), Darrel estimates that we'd be looking at a February delivery. Taking into account the difficulty/uncertainty/time involved in trying to get the handle anodizing close to what we want, he estimates that it could take a month or two more -- so a March or April delivery.

I thought we had agreed to a lesser level of anodizing because it would have been easier to get the color match.

We did, and that's what they're doing. But "easier" doesn't mean "easy" -- it's still tough to match a sample even with Type II anodizing and is taking some trial and error.

O okay, just checking. I'm fine with waiting an extra month or two for the right color. The difference between Feb and Mar/Apr is not much.

So a question here. The heat treatment was done. Did Darrel do the heat treatment in house or use Brad @
Peters Heat Treat? What did the HRC come in at?
Thanks...

I am really excited guys. I know its a long wait but this is a pretty big effort on everyone's part. It took us forever just to get from a possible forum knife to steel choice to down payment on our part, Imagine making them! Extra attention to detail is exactly what we wanted and of course there's a price for that. Fine with me. S90V will still be a butt kicking steel in March.

Also, I have been somewhat absent for awhile. I moved from Southwest MO to Tulsa about a week ago. Lots of stuff going on. It weird not knowing where to find good Chinese. Really weird.
